Badia a Passignano never falls short and is a benchmark in Chianti Riserva. This 2015 vintage confirms with its complexity and overall pleasantness, with some fruit left and tertiary scent ranging from underbrush to leather and pencil. with some elegant oak in the background A good companion also alone in your baloon for reasonings

Healthy young colour. Surprising nose, doesn't rign a bell Chianti-wise for me. A bit medicinal, dark fruit, old wood, leather, a hint of alcohol. Slightly astringent taste, tannins not fully resolved, fairly high acidity. I'll let the 5 other bottles sit at least another year to mellow.

Plot-based, the aging of this 100% Sangiovese lasted 12 months and was done in Hungarian and French oak barrels. Then the different lots were assembled and bottled at the Badia a Passignano estate. The wine was decanted for an hour then it evolved very favorably throughout the dinner. It really reached its peak at noon the next day where it was simply delicious. The posh nose expresses perfumes of morello cherries, strawberries, leather, tobacco, a tiny licorice, a dash of vanilla, on an upper-class background of cedar wood. It feels like a gentlemen's english club. Medium+ bodied, the palate offers an interesting depth and a smooth, wonderfully velvety texture, with flavors of bright berry fruits, black tea, leather, balsamic (this is much more present than on the nose) and some nuances of oriental spices. It finishes quite long, juicy and energetic, revealing notes of licorice, espresso and a bit of wood. Very, very good! I bet that the oak will manage to blend in even more, so I'll revisit it in 2 or 3 years. [Photo on Instagram]

Part of a Sangiovese and Barolo Pasta and Pizza night with my wine group. This is always an enjoyable wine. No formal notes.

Drank on the 4th day it was open, such a reliable great Gran Selezione: cherry, prune, plum, leather, tobacco, medium body, smooth long finish.
