Vibrant purple colour. Good legs. Nose of coffee, tobacco. Elegant on the palate with good tannins but no harshness. Beautifully smooth. Layered and complex. Coffee again with lovely dark fruit. Good length. Will last a long time and may well improve. Beautiful.

An great wine? Great structure and body. A complex wine that still has time left. I opened up very well when open and decanted for over an hour.

Very floral on the nose and front palate, leather earth and ripe fruit on the mid palate, long finish with toasted vanilla. Very nice, balanced bordeaux.

We have had a long journey with this wine starting back in 2008 ( Papies 90) and happy to see this at its best after rating this 92 in 2019.
This is now at peak and is the wine we have been promised all these years ago and shows very well why prices of it have been creeping higher.
Very much the elegant wine, well matured now and with an old school classic edge, dark fruited, soft herbs, less leathery more on the fruit still albeit well secondary . Very solid 93-94

Tobacco and forest floor on the nose. Some dark fruit and baking spice with leather, cedar box flavors. Very good after a 2 hour decant. If I had any more bottles I would drink them soon. Probably slightly on the way down. Still very good though

Opened and decanted about 2 hours before serving. This was absolutely delicious from the start. Packed with delicious, sweet red fruits and just "a point" right now. Reminded me a lot of an 82 Leoville Poyferre for sheer enjoyability. Just a great wine to enjoy right now.

Absolute margaux finesse. Tasted in a blind bordeaux flight and was able to identify it as a margaux. This is a beautiful wine full of verve and class. Drinking beautifully now.

I think my bottle was particularly well stored. To their credit, it was a recent purchase from Flickinger wines. Unlike, prior reviewers have noted, this bottle was not particularly evolved, but rather had a nose full of fresh red fruit - cherry, raspberry, and cassis. There were also floral notes and a loverly earthy undertone as well. I did not note much oak, brett, or other secondary notes. However, the nose had such a quintessential Margaux perfume!

The palate still had structure and some tannins left, but it was fruit dominated as well. While a bit closed on the mouth at the beginning of the night, over 2 hours of aeration, this wine kept tasting better and better until the last drop.

I'm beginning to think that second wines of non-first growths in great years have excellent QPR. Others great QPR wines I had recently include the 2000 Blason d'Issan, 2005 Le Clementin de Pape Clement, and the 1996 Les Fiefs de Lagrange.

If you follow my ratings on this wine you will see that i started below 90 (drank too early) and am now solidly at a 93. It is totally under-rated. It is wonderful bordeaux. Gets better and I'm sad to say I'm on my last bottle!

Not sure I agree with all these notes to ‘drink up.’ All of our bottles were in good condition and drinking well, if anything could use more time. This was one of my favorite wines and drank perfectly with the beef Wellington pairing. Lest elegant than most Margaux but not in a bad way, just more robust. Also the gap between this ‘second wine’ and the Chateau Palmer’ seems to be getting smaller, especially if you take price into account.
Double decanted 90 min before serving and that was fine. More time would have been ok too.

Best bottle of this - and interestingly the one drank in the poshest company (97 Pichon Comtesse and 88 Pichon Baron). Lots of structure, depth - maybe the 98s are finally beginning to unfurl or maybe it's just one of those weird things about wine...where something looks better when compared to really good things...

Nydelig nese av plommer og blyantkvess, typisk mørk 2000 farge. Utrolig saftig vin, med med godt anslag, lengde og kropp. Flott modne druer er gått inn i denne vinen. Godt integrerte tanniner og syre.

Excellent delicate tertiary aroma fruity nose with leather, fine oak and suis-bois notes.
Medium-full bodied, excellent balance and harmony, well structured, good complexity, long enjoyable finish, medium aftertaste. At peak or already a bit beyond. Drink now.

Bdx and others (Bin 555): Expressive nose, subtle, with floral notes, and leather. Mature palate, with dried fruit flavors, and pipe tobacco that repeats on a lengthy finish of cassis and stone. Very accessible and mature. Showing quite well but seemingly more mature than expected. Representative bottle?

Impromptu Bordeaux on a Sunday Afternoon (HM's place): This was very impressive for a second label. It had a nice nose of plums and black cherries flecked with earth, spice and tobacco aromas. Somewhat straddling the left and right banks I thought, with a nice little nod to the abundance of Merlot in the blend. The palate was very elegant, with a fresh, lively feel and fine bone structure underlying its cassis and black fruited flavours. It was very clean, slightly lighter styled than the Grand Vin, but very pleasing in its own way. The merlot showed up in the finish once more, with lots of spice notes playing on an earthy background. Still young, with hints of fine tannin peppering the palate, but this was very drinkable even now. For best effects, I would wait a couple more years before popping one of these.
