10/28/2004 - Wusman wrote: 89 pointsI am not a huge Oregon pinot drinker but was curious about this offering and so picked up a few bottles. Opened a 500cc bottle this evening. Deep ruby with purple hue. Nose muted right out of the bottle, but became more aromatic after an hour or two in glass. Aromas of subtle pepper, cherry and cedar. Powerful flavors that mimic the nose without much sweetness. I found the finish somewhat green. Perhaps this is just the tannic bite that this young wine still has. The tannins did integrate a little more later in the evening. Overall an very good wine. |

5/23/2005 - Wusman wrote: 87 pointsConsumed over two days. Deep lavender at rim. Nose of leather, earth, berries. Palate full of cherry, maybe some licorice, and minerals. After about 3 hrs in glass the wine seemed to close down a fair amount. Sweet lingering tannin with moderate finish. The wine was quite nice over the first couple of hours, but seemed to change relatively quickly. The second day it evolved to a tart/bitter wine with few of the characteristics of the first night. Eager to open again to see what other bottles may be like. |

Noticicble tannins on the finish. Finish not terribly long, but lingers just enough! Enjoyable now, with or without food. |

Still purple on the rim with no signs of aging. Beautifully open nose of sweet cassis, earth, some licorice, and pencil shavings. The wine is smooth on the palate, noticible acidity, dark fruits, cedar and earth. Finish is somewhat short, but pleasant. Mild-moderate tannins without any hint of bitterness. I just love QPR bordeaux! |

3/1/2006 - Wusman wrote: 86 pointsMy first 2003 bordeaux. Right away this smelled californian to me. Merlot aromas dominated with blueberries at the front. Palate coating and thick. More like a Barrosa shiraz than bordeaux. Slight touch of bitterness which quickly subsided to sweet dark fruit. Some noticable alcohol and moderate tannins concealed below the fruit. A nice wine, but not what I would call typical bordeaux. |

11/16/2004 - Wusman wrote: 90 pointsOpened and thankfully not corked (heard about some ? cork issues with this vintage). Consumed with a bunch of other wines at a tasting with no particular focus. Bear with me as my notes are sparse. Minimal brick color at the rim, overall still purple. Right out of the bottle I got a sort of acidic nose that dissipated quickly. Later a touch of game. After about 1 hour the wine began to take on the traditional bordeaux characteristics. Classic cabernet on the palate with a somewhat short finish. Mild tannins. |

7/16/2005 - Wusman wrote: 87 pointsGaragiste 2002 Bordeaux Tasting (Garagiste Warehouse, Seattle, WA): Dark purple without aging. Nose somewhat closed. A touch of medicine both on the nose and palate, but also some coffee, sweet tar. The midpalate seemed a bit hollow, but the persistent finish seemed to make up for it a bit. Not my favorite. |

Palate dominated by dark raspberries and some chocolate. Again, very soft, lush and mouthfilling with sweet tannins into the finish. This wine seemed like a nobrainer, one that is quite easy to love given the fruit forward style with sweetness and moderate tannins. I really enjoyed it and found that it seemed to be showing quite well amongst the others. An exuberant right banker. |

4/15/2005 - Wusman wrote: 86 pointsFinally decided to open up one of these to determine if it lacks as much stuffing as everyone else on this board claims. Brought to the Palace Kitchen and consumed with their applewood rotisserie-fired lamb shank as well as their Washington chicken. Difficult to see the rim in the dark light. Minimal bricking (if any) using the candlelight. On opening, the nose was quite closed, but did show typical hints of cedar, maybe a bit of graphite. Has that "Bordeaux" aroma. It remained this way through the evening. Palate of earthy fruits, cassis and finished quite short with a bit of bitterness. Enjoyable, but not worth the pricetag. The company, food, and atmosphere made it much much better! |

4/3/2006 - Wusman wrote: 94 pointsSolid purple. Immediate aromas of sweet berries, cedar, and earth filled the glass. Very pretty. The palate was silky smooth with pleasant tannic backbone. Sweet cassis, wood, graphite all there in abundance. Moderately long finish. Drank in combination with the '02. This was much more expressive and smooth without the slight bitterness at the end. A very nice surprise. |

Nose somewhat closed, but seemed to open a bit after 2-3 hrs into the event after revisiting later. Aromas of black fruits, coffee, graphite, cedar. Palate had sort of a wonderful spicy blackberry and cassis. Moderate tannins overall. Quite nice. My #5 overall. |

4/3/2006 - Wusman wrote: 92 pointsOpened with the 2001. Also deep purple with a reserved nose of spice, cassis, ceda. A little more alcohol on the nose than I expected. Palate with mouthfilling berry and cassis flavors. A touch of bitterness at the end. Not off putting, but present. Moderate finish with more noticable tannin. This was a nice wine, but not up to the 2001. Of course it is a year younger, but already the '01 is much more expressive. Better on the second night. |

Powerful nose full of spice, menthol, blueberries. Very thick almost coating the glass with purple liquid. Deep, silky tannins with loads of black fruit on the palate. Very good. |

4/22/2005 - Wusman wrote: 92 pointsDeep ruby in color, no evidence of aging. Nose of plum and dark fruits with some pepper. Thick mouthfeel. Out of the bottle I found it a little grapey on the palate, but this quickly resolved with airtime. Some oak present, but not overwhelming. Mostly earthy blackberry flavors predominate. Moderate tannins present, but not too drying. Quite nice. Continued to consume this over 3 nights in total and it held up very well over time. Drinking well now, but no need to drink now as it should last a while. |

This is no cherry-candy pinot. The fruit here is present, but the earthy spice is what makes this wine memorable for me. Quite nice. |
