At 14.9% abv, this monster is popped and pours a beautifully saturated golden color with very long legs. On the nose, the strong alcohol brings forth a rich and full scent of oak and honey. This is supported by a bevy of oats, candied lemon peel, rosewater, Grand Marnier and toasted almonds. On the palate, the wine displays a wonderful structure - potent but not cloying at all. The heat from the alcohol definitely wrestles itself to be acknowledged as soon as it hits the tongue. With it are flavors of marzipan, lemon curd, honeyed nuts, oak and candied roses. Acidity is kept at a low here; but despite that, there is a freshness and minerality to the chardonnay that keeps it lively. Although the finish is of medium length, the wine is very concentrated in both scent and taste. Critics may carp about the lack of complexity in the wine. But to me, this is great juice that shows meticulous extraction and strikes a very good balance between a Cali chard and a white Burgundy.

Nose of lemon curd, citrus flowers, and toast. On the palate, rich with meyer lemon, toffee, and obvious spicy oak. Finish has plenty of acidity but the oak treatment overwhelms everything. Hold for a couple years and hope that the oak integrates.

Some fruit but mostly oak and Some sweet creamy sensations. Drinking well now but not overly complex. Would recommend consuming within the next five years.

Was hoping these Pahlmeyer's would have held up better, but its the second bottle in a few months, and showing its age. Not bad, just nothing not worthy, would suggest drinking soon, these have started their slide down the back side.

Light-Bright straw coloring; citrus on the nose (apricot, lemon zest). Light butter coating of the palate with crushed stone. I suspect at the end of its window, but a steal for $5 from a bargain bin!

Beautiful deep golden colour. Lots of different flavours - kiwi, floral notes and oak. Flavour lasts as the wine coats the mouth - great finish.

Oak up front (like all Pahlmeyer wines), with honey, lemon curd, and lemon meringue--touch of hay. Probably drinking as good as it will right now. Drink within next 3 years.

Last bottle, and I believe from how my bottles aged that was a good thing. Missing some freshness, more creamy and buttery at this stage.

Opened this on a Monday as I was sure it would be long long past its prime- and you know what? Delicious. I guess proper cellaring really helps - no longer a blast to the senses but all that I like in a well
Made balanced CA chard

Ripe fruit, significant oak, glycerin-like texture. Solid weight and acid. Made in a crowd-pleasing style.

Wine tasting pour. Very nice fruit with butter from the malolactic fermentation, moderately oaked, crisp, balanced, and finishes well.

Complex aromas of fig, peach, cashew, honeysuckle and spice. It is rich and heady with intense ripe peach flavours and a butteriness to its mouthfeel. It is Chardy with plenty of grunt.

The bottle pours a deep golden color as it starts to show its age. On the nose, the wine is pungent and concentrated. Thankfully the use of oak is rather restrained. The bouquet consists of fresh-cut grass, citrus cream, minerals, pineapples, almonds and just a touch of buttered popcorn. Palate is broad and generous. Flavors of butterscotch, lemon meringue pie, crushed rocks, and toasted oak are all there. Finish is of moderate length with a smoky tint. In many ways, this is a very typical Californian chardonnay due to the ripeness and unmistakably judicious use of oak. That said, although the power and weight is there, the wine lacks focus and precision. Nothing wrong with that though as this is still an enjoyable bottle.

Wine Institute of California Tasting (Hotel Radisson Blu, Amsterdam Airport, NL): Tasting, brief note. The second wine to the Pahlmeyer Chardonnay. Much more middle of the road in style than the Wayfarer which preceded it, but the quality of the wine making is evident, ripe citrus and herbs, oaky warmth, good length.

Atlas Peak Estate Vineyard and Wayfarer fruit. Room for the wood to express in the nose. Tropical, rich on the palate, woody. Dark wood grain tones to the palate. Napa AVA.

Luscious golden color with hint of flowers (honeysuckle?) that was nicely balanced by stone fruits with a crisp ending of acidity.

Too much butter, oak, malo, and not nearly enough acidity. Those who like the stereotypical fruit bomb Cali chard (see: cougar juice) will love this wine. Not my bag, baby....

Pair this correctly. It is big pineapple fruit with plenty of body and a mouth coating, almost oily structure. Delicious but I could see this fall apart with the wrong pairing.

Loved this wine. It starts with a golden color that reminded me of liquid sunshine. The nose embraces you with hints of honey and green apple. As you savor the wine, it will remind you of light citrus with a touch of a red apple followed by a pleasing acidic finish.
