Quite floral in its character, the wine is elegant, dark, and sensuous, with loads of ripe, dark red berries, chocolate, spice, mint, and licorice. The creamy-textured, lifted finish lingers, with its layers of sweet, and spicy fruit topped with shaved dark chocolate. The wine is produced from 100% Merlot. Drink from 2028-2047. 92-94 Pts.

It has passed the closed phase and drinks OK now. Classic Pomerol with black fruits, subtle secondary notes (licorice-like), and integrated acidity-based structure. Having said that, I wouldn't call it exciting wine.

92-94 Punkte.

At CdB HK dinner. Paired with Certan de May 2014.

This was a tannic primary beast. Not quite like a barrel sample but not far off. Inky, purple/black. Completely closed and sealed up in its tannin and oak straightjacket. Palate is a a wave of dark fruit and then the tannins are vicious basically rendering the wine undrinkable with any pleasure even with food. No Pomerol scent or subtlety here! Needs at least 5 years if not 10 to come around. Wasn’t expecting this!

A touch of amber hue and mainly dark ruby colour, beautiful transparency! Nose of French oak barrique, ripe, sweet fruits, a little bit of spiciness, and a gentle touch of leather. The palate is rich and dense, rather youthful and quite meaty, full of substance, long finish! Ready to drink but not yet ready to shine! Needs a decade of cellaring, with a very promising future!

A delicious treat

Complex nose of spicy, mineral, ripe, sweet cherry fruits. Deep, translucent ruby colour! Meaty, minty, sweet cherry fruit palate, a lengthy finish! Can age a bit longer for more refinement and complexity, a brief decanting is highly recommended! Now to 2033 in my book!

Very grateful for the tasting notes of Randyjc and Schoonbeke. I purchased this wine as a future and have properly stored it since delivery. Was decanted and served with a ribeye dinner. Our notes were a pleasant but shy nose transitioning seamlessly to mid-weight cassis and black fruit palate flavors and a long finish. About 1/3 of the bottle was saved, recorked, and refrigerated overnight. The next day it was a different wine — massive weight on the palate and less structure. The “next day” wine certainly had much more “wow” factor. I have several bottles left in the case and plan to try the next one in about 3 years.

Decant for 15 minutes. I opened 2014 Sociando-Mallet at the same time. This wine is a winner. Woody, and cigar box aroma. Dark chocolate, plum and game flavors, smooth tannins. I originally thought the acidity of 2014 SM was well balanced, now this wine is more comfortable and delicious, absolutely delicious. It takes at least 45 minutes to open. Definitely in need of lengthy decant.

Clear pale medium ruby.
Dark berries and red fruits- blackberry, red plumb, white pepper, licorice
Cedar, vanilla, some very slight tertiary mushroom.
Dry, medium acidity, medium silky tannin. Dark fruits- blackberry, plum, vanilla, white pepper, clove. Full luscious mouthfeel, medium alcohol. Long finish. Some mushroom/earth, but not overpowering.
Outstanding wine. Well balanced, good length, very good intensity, lots of layered complexity.

Still very good after 35 years. Matured and settled down. Not a lot of decanting time needed. The provenance had a lot to do with it. Great condition wine. Thanks to Baghera Wines Geneva. 👍

This hasn't moved in two years. Purple color. Shy aromas. Dark fruit and earth. Still seems shut. Polished like glass, but not generous or giving anything yet. Everything seems to be here and in place, but I'd guess it needs another 3-5 years. It was good. Enjoyable even, but not to its potential yet I expect. 92 on potential.

The cork pulled out so cleanly, I was positive the bottle was going to be good. But, this bottle was even better than expected! Truffles, chocolate, dried roses, tobacco, and black cherries popped in the nose. But, the showstopper here is the silky, sensuous textures that made the perfect backdrop for the earthy, black cherries, cocoa, Indian spice, peppercorns, and touch of leafy herbs in the finish. I hope I have another bottle, but, I’m afraid this was the final bottle from the case. It was perfect for Valentine’s Day. Do not decant. Pop, and pour. Drink from 2024-2030.

Drank this to celebrate my 35th birthday. This bottle was quite clearly aged Pomerol and drinking very nicely - perhaps more interesting aromatically than on the palate (as I sometimes have found with old right bank). Opulent and plush, with stewed plum, cigar box spice, velvety chocolate.

Amazing nose that's difficult to describe in full. Ethereal roasting meat, ripe black currants, blackberry concentrate, creme de cassis, new vanilla-tinged French oak and mint. Medium-full bodied and SO round and luxurious in the mouth. This is truly excellent and perfectly mature. Same flavors as the aromas adding cedar and chocolate to this deliciousness! This is hard to resist, but I've got to save some for the pot roast! Drink now-2028+ 93

First bottle from a recently purchased case. Cannot recall drinking Latour a Pomerol in recent years and hence was not sure what to expect.
This is a big wine, deep in the Parker camp of the 2000s. Would have guessed 2009 Right Bank blind.

Still a dark garnet with a translucent rim in the glass. On the nose dark fruit, some wood spices, earth and some coffee. Rich round fruit on the palate, the Merlot shows very ripe, am even getting a touch of a burned and slightly bitter note on the back palate. Tannins however very well managed, integrated and just right to support the fruit for another 5-10 years no problem. Short to medium finish.

Very well done in the vintage context, and a wine that might still show better in a few years. Also you might rate higher if you enjoy the big right bankers of the 2000s.
What I find interesting is how wrong almost all main wine critics had this en primeur and en arrivage. Both some of the ones I follow (Tanzer “bright ruby red”) and the ones I follow less (Jancis: “Ballerina”?, and then Suckling of course, but totally off Decanter “representative of the vintage, light structure”), they seemed to have seen something much more 07 like in the glass. I only can somewhat relate to Neal Martin’s note, as one can see how the wine could have evolved from what he describes, but most accurate for once Bob’s tasting note (“meaty, muscular wine”), just surprised by his very mediocre 88 point rating for this style… 91+
