4/29/2016 - ChazGeorgetown14 Likes this wine: NRStrawberries, raspberries and red liquorice are complimented by roses and base of river stones. After an hour or so, there is a pleasantly tart and just slightly bitter component; much like eating an unprocessed cranberry with tannins that are firm but never harsh. Really gets going after 6 hours as the wine becomes a bit darker, thicker and sweeter. There is an unmistakeable Ravera connection to the Langhe Nebbiolo, albeit with an added layer of refinement from the CSL and depth which I imagine is the Le Coste. While the Brunate is a powerhouse of balsam and tar, this Tre Tine is a lithe yet elegant expression of G. Rinaldi which should not be overlooked. |

3/13/2016 - ChazGeorgetown14 Likes this wine: NRPop. Pour. Wow. Cherries, strawberries and red licorice practically leap from the glass and remain incredibly vibrant over the course of several hours. The characteristic floral and herbal notes are present but maybe a bit less than usual; this bottle was deeply focused on a core of red fruit. The palate is just as fresh although not quite as sweet as the nose would suggest. Sour cherries, raspberries and pulsating acidity hit the tongue and remind you that this is a young nebbiolo. My only gripe is the slightly bitter chalkiness of the tannins which might be a result of the volatile spring and uneven cycle. Nonetheless, this is another delicious bottle which has come along beautifully over the last two years and still has more to give. Lovely. |

While I would trade my remaining 2011's for the lean and mean 2013's, I wouldn't trade MT's barbera for anyone else's...in any vintage. I've been having fun with the entry level wines from big names recently: Mascarello, Rinaldi, Cappellano and Accomasso... though I'm hopelessly in love with the brilliance of Cantina Mascarello under the stewardship of Maria Taresa (and Alan). |

11/20/2015 - ChazGeorgetown14 Likes this wine: NRSomewhat tighter than it was at the cantina in July 2015, but it opens up with beautiful grace and elegance. A floral bouquet mixes with the freshest strawberries & semi sweet cherries which I find to be just so characteristic of Maria Taresa's wines. With air, the nose develops an negroni-like sense of botanicals and orange peel that I really dig. The palate is a bit lighter than the nose would suggest and leans a bit more towards tart cranberries. A short/medium term drinker with acid/tannins that are notably energetic and a total delight. |

Lovely floral and lean cherry fruit with a touch of powdered sugar on the nose; not sappy sweet but not totally austere either. The palate shows much of the same, though it is very serious with steel, stones and minerality. On day 2 it's holding strong and, if anything, seems a bit more structured. I believe this is 100% Ravera juice and spends 18 mo in botti. While not quite as intense and deep as the baroli from this house, the red fruit and charged acidity strike a chord reminiscent of the Tre Tine 2010. 4 people found this helpful, do you? 9/2/2015 - ChazGeorgetown14 Does not like this wine: NRSimilar experience as the last bottle I had a few weeks ago. Opened up a bit dirty with a nose of hot dog water overpowering the black cherry cola notes that I typically love in Cappellano. On the palate the warm vintage was reasonably in check (although full disclosure: I am very much biased to favor the cooler vintages in Piedmont). On day two it cleared up a bit and I found myself really trying to like this wine. While it was undoubtedly nebbiolo in profile, it lacked the simple purity that makes the great traditionalist producers' base wines so enjoyable. I am a huge fan of Cappellano and recently had the '05 Pie Rupestris and '05 Nebbiolo d'alba, which were both drinking beautifully... so maybe I'll just chalk this one up to the vintage? |

Then a 2 hour slow ox reveals more flowers, earth, mushrooms and herbs that I also enjoyed in the Cappellano rupestris 05. Constantly evolving while the acidity maintains poise and verve as it paired perfectly with lamb ragu. Although it develops with air, I must stress that it was an absolute delight from the first pour to the last. |

More powerful than the 08 but never heavy. I wish I had taken more descriptive notes. Imagine cappellano in the village of barolo. I can't put a number score on this... it is the essence of pure, unpolished and unrestricted barolo. Perfumed, very fresh and perfect with grilled seafood. Absolutely consistent with Burlotto's expressive house style of elegance, balance and gorgeous purity. Not complex like the monvigliero barolo but this pelaverga is just as unique. In a world of over-oaked fruit bombs, I can't over emphasize how much I enjoy this DELICIOUS bottling. |

Palate had the surreal Burlotto Monvigliero silkyness, even moreso than the 2008 vintage. I am generally not a fan of the 2009 Barolos but Verduno is so far north that this wine manages great balance and elegance. |
