2/3/2023 - oakville72 Likes this wine: 90 pointsIn surprisingly good shape for being 30 years old. Little sign of oxidation. Fruit is restrained, and it's not obviously Cabernet Sauvignon. Medium-bodied yet quite attractive. Great acidity has kept it alive. An example of how lower alcohol, higher acid Cabernet Sauvignons hold up well if stored correctly. |

5/14/2021 - ElAzul Likes this wine: 88 pointsA friend had this wine in his cellar that was given to him from a California associate and had kept it in somewhat non-optimal conditions but the cork was in very good shape with a run maybe 1/3 up the cork. Orange on the rim was obvious but the overall body was still of the light bodied color of aged cabernet. Nose was reticent until 2 hours open. Dark fruit apparent on the tongue but even after 90 minutes open and then through an aerator it was never flamboyant. Still it was balanced with decent acidity, mostly resolved tannins but it would have been interesting to have tasted it if it had been kept at 60 or less rather than 70-75. |

At the time it was fresh, fruity, but a bit overly assaulting in how big and tannic it was. This was remarkable -- the wine is blood red, modest amount of sediment, cork intact, no bricking, a fruity nose with some camphor, mint, chocolate and tarragon. The mouthfeel is rich and silky. Some red fruits and chocolate, with a touch of plum and camphor on the finish. This wine is remarkably youthful for seeing 28 trips around the sun. |

8/29/2016 - Guillaume T. Likes this wine: 92 pointsA superb wine, saved for my birthday dinner. The 3+ hours it spent in the decanter was a bit of a roller-coaster ride, as it changed identity several times, opening and closing, revealing acidity then hiding it again, and displaying various facets of dried fruit, pressed flowers, Madeira, and wet leather. In the end, if finally calmed down into something suitable for the cocoa & chile notes of my wife's celebrated Mole sauce, with deep chocolate and spice notes of its own. A fantastic wine for a special evening. |

Though the fruit is a little bit cooked / baked (probably from the field / style, not cellaring), it was interesting to see something like this really hold up for so long. Still showed dark fruit, some earth, and tar and some roasted meat. Not much spice or complexity, but even without notable acid, it didn't seem flabby. |

Overall, I loved the aromas of cranberries, tart blackberries, wet leaves, earth, menthol, with time I started getting more mushroom and spearmint notes. The tannic structure is still solid – they’re dusty but still holding everything together. Sweet berries on the palate, but also a lot of tart and wild berry aspects. Fresh acid, tingly, provides balance. I love the evolving flavors of mint, balsamic glaze, white pepper and even some sun-dried tomato. This is a really complex and delicious wine, showing richer-sweeter tones, but the tannin-acid focus keeps it really interesting and food friendly. Paired really well with a skirt steak. I wish I had more. For a fraction of the price of a Napa Cab, this over delivers. Go Redwood Valley! |

2/16/2014 - wayfarer Likes this wine: 91 pointsDeep yellow, rich nose & palate of vanilla, aged citrus, honey, floral notes and really long finish that stays and stays. Right amount of acid to balance the sweetness. Enjoyed over two nights and though fresher and more aromatic on night one , night two was still very good, with equal richness that had not gone flat at all. Wish I had another one to try in a couple more years. |
