The nose is of ripe plum, fresh fig, cassis, a light touch of brown sugar, and a light touch of leather. The palate enters on the rich, ripe fruit and turns to medium minus tannin and medium minus acid. The finish lingers nicely replaying the refresh fig and ripe plum notes. All in all this has aged remarkably well and despite some fairly ripe fruit here is totally in tact and drinking really well. |

4/2/2005 - Whyno wrote: 87 pointsEven though 2002 saw lots of rain during the Cote du Rhone Villages harvest, this small producer escaped much of the dilution because of its location at the top of the hill. While this may not be the great Cote du Rhone ever it is a very nice dinner-tonight Grenache with light to medium body and fruit and just a little pepper. A reasonable bargain at around $12 in single bottle quantity. |

Well balanced, and the crisp acidity would go well with food. A very tasty wine, although the finish was a little weak. Reminds me of chocolate covered strawberries. |

7/6/2009 - pbaek wrote: NRConsumed over 2 days. Here is another 2003 Cotes du Rhone that is not bad at all. The cepage is 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Cinsault, 5% Mourvedre and 5% Carignan. Alain Dugas (La Nerthe) is the proprieteur of this domaine and the wine is indeed in a more polished style. Purple red in color. Ripe strawberry and dark plum on the nose. A good dose of cherry fruit on the palate from the Grenache, then spices, just a whiff of port, a bit of licorice and white pepper as well. Well contained and quite smooth. This is not in the rustic genre - the La Nerthe touch is obvious. Not marked by the vintage. Good with BBQ. Stayed on good form on day 2. So far, no undrinkable 2003 Cotes du Rhones for me. On the contrary quite a few good ones. |
