Honeysuckle aroma. Rich, smooth, clean, a little tired, very good initially. Madeira notes appear after an hour. Tasted with AdV; wine source from the domaine.

Nineteen vintages of DRC Montrachet: The 1988 was an ex chateau bottle, but I wasn't feeling it at all. A few thought me bonkers, but that's happened many times before. It simply didn't move me.

At first, a little exotic and botrytized smell like Sauternes
Apricot, Dried, Tropical Fruit, Buttery
After breathing it smells of Seconday flavor.

Mint, Floral, White Spices, Honey and Petrol

in palate
Rich and Intense fruit flavor
But also Detailed and Energetic acidity
Long Finish

Masterpiece!

Gift from Aubert to our generous host and performed very well considering the massive anticipation, though wow factor lags the best Montrachet. Different wine, which is sharper and lighter, not the concentration or viscosity of Montrachet. Slight reduction aromatically with white flower hints. Crisp, fresh palate with pit fruit character and saline notes. Very persistent, goes on.

A private dinner (Café Parlotte, Amsterdam, NL): Bottle No. 02677 / 9110. Not decanted, tasted intently and drunk over the course of three hours. Complex citrus flavours wrapped in peach skin, lemon tart including the meringue, rich and powerful but effortlessly elegant and flowing, creamy attack, great tension and energy, refined vegetal notes, perfectly integrated new oak leaves just a hint of vanilla sweetness on the finish, unfathomable chalky depths, infallible chiseled precision, composed like a Beethoven symphony, mouthfilling fruit (with a tropical edge) on the well-balanced finish, outstanding length. An emotional wine, bull’s eye in the very first vintage. Completely different style, but level pegging with very fine vintages of Coche-Dury’s rendition of this vineyard.

Note: this bottle was shared by two people. It was opened and poured immediately. The first two glasses were absolutely mind-blowing, utterly spectacular, the basis for my description and score. We were aghast. After a while, the wine started to settle down, and while it did not shut down and remained thoroughly enjoyable, it no longer delivered the magic of those first glasses. If you want to drink this wine now, do not open it a long time in advance and whatever you do, do not decant it. Witness the awakening of the wine, "l'éveil", as this moment will never return.

Opened 4 hours before drinking and kept it in the bottle. Opulent and rich with concentration of tropical fruit and sweet white flowers. Tasting blind I would have guessed a white Hermitage. So mature already, with low acidity, strong aromas and lots of length.

01174/9110. At 14% alcohol, this is certainly reflective of the vintage ripeness, but what impresses me is how DRC manages to enunciate the quintessential CC minerality with such precision and acidity. House style seems lighter and cleaner now. Rich toasted popcorn heaven, sunshine yellow fruit, butterscotch, intense potpourri, white florals, even light matchstick sesame signatures that remind me of the several perfect CC examples chez Leroy. Reduction is clean and so deep, likely facilitated by the alcohol level, such that its lingering flavors pinch straight to my nerve. Every detail comes so naturally from the heat, to a numbing and alarmingly long finish that turns, evolves, and folds onto itself (a quality I associate with RC almost exclusively from the DRC lineup). Profound aftertaste becomes juicy, making me physically crave for more. No notable flaws here, possibly a perfect wine. 98-99

P.S. After air the wine does become flatter, but it does not distract the comprehsnvinfess in flavors. I think it is a wine that does not require much breathing to enjoy the fullness of its sharpness. Last pour was around 95 points at best, in that while there is no notable flaw, there was unfortunately nothing exciting either.

From magnum. Reminds me of cool vintage Monty like 2007 or 2011, which I favor. Compares favorably with recent Coche vintages such as 2014. Aromatics are exuberantly floral, lifted. Palate yet to put on weight but certainly balanced and tense. Exciting wine. (134/9110)

From 750ml. Palate a bit richer than 1500ml, but whether due to bottle size of open another hour longer, difficult to tell. Similarly striking citrus tinged balance, ultra clean, refined and energetic. (3448/9110)

Tasted in a arrivage tasting of all DRC 2019. Overall, the 2019s DRC are beautifully perfumed, very ripe wines, but they also carry a nice vein of acidity that is making them brighter and fresh. The bottles show incredible class, but also a certain ripeness that might be something that needs getting used to for purists. I thought that the terroir was showing beautifully, despite the ripeness of the year. The wines seemeed very different and true to their cru, especially at the beginning of the tasting and again with quite some air. In between the differences were just a tiny bit muddled.
If I remember correctly the first vintage of this wine at DRC from 4 plots that are owned by Bonneau de Martray. Slightly reductive notes of matchstick, but also lemon oil, citrus, flintstone, white flowers, wet stone, beautiful minerality. It‘s medium-full bodied, with medium-high acidity adding precision and tension, very good persistence too. Very long finish with building complexity. A superbly fresh, complex and layered Corton-Charlemagne and a fantastic premier. I personally liked this better than the Montrachet next to it (which was a clear step up in body, richness and probably also complexity).

First vintage of this rebadged bonneau du martray ?? Haha kiddng sort of. Is this worth where it’s trading secondary market like 10-12k a bottle ?

Maybe from collectibility being first vintage, but from drinking it … I say no. It’s fabulous but doesn’t seem like 10k of fabulousness.

The wine has a complexity and weight more like a Montrachet than a cc. It is rich and creamy with floral and apple notes.

Very vibrant ripe fruit. I can't say that I liked the balance, as the alcohol was showing a little too much for my taste. I still went back to the glass for the so very delicious fruit but was turned off a little by the same expression of alcohol. I would pay an exaggerated price for the 2019 Coche Bourgogne but not for this wine.
