8/10/2017 - WineSpat Likes this wine: 95 pointsMedium lemon colour. Medium plus intensity aromas of spicy nectarine, perfectly interwoven cedar and lees. On the palate the wine is dry, juicy, medium plus bodied, multi-layered in a way that just oozes complexity and builds and builds. Extremely well balanced. Medium plus acidity, medium plus alcohol, long length. This is a superb wine with lots of time ahead of it. Does Chardonnay get much better? |

1/27/2021 - HowardNZ Likes this wine: NRThe End of the Golden Weather: a pre-COVID-19 Visit to Central Otago in Autumn 2020: A bottle consumed at home over three nights, during which it did not change. As I've said in previous notes, I'd now put this rare Chardonnay (however, a relatively generous 2,200 bottles produced this year) among the top dozen or so Chardonnays produced in NZ. The site is limestone-based and relatively high (200 metres) and maritime influenced. This cuvée is about as close as NZ gets to Chablis. Under screwcap. Light straw colour. A steely bouquet showing wet limestone, fine citrus, pears and crisp, green apple. Also, on opening, a light touch of creamy oak and a little reduction. In the mouth, huge energy and precision. Good weight, power and concentration. Very citric and malic, mineral and dry. Also, grapefruit, wet oyster shell and nectarine. Pure, clean and elegant. The alcohol an admirable 13% ABV. Grant Taylor says that this wine "will improve with age, possibly even up to 18 years". Safe under its stelvin closure, with the fruit, structure and acidity here, I wouldn't be surprised if he were right. Best to hold for 2-3 years as a minimum. |

5/29/2021 - RyanWu wrote: 86 pointsThe nose was quite muted. On the palate, mineral taste usually gives you the sense of chil. However, the heat from alcohol ruined it. Overall, the quality didn’t match the price. Good Russian river or Oregon producers can surpass it easily with no effort......... |

1/14/2022 - HowardNZ Likes this wine: NR2019 Visit to Cromwell (Central Otago, NZ): The cool site meets the warm vintage. A more perfumed nose than typical of peaches and pears, as well as lime and lemon citrus, green apple and chalk. On palate, the typical flinty and limestone-influenced mineral profile. A little riper than normal with more orchard – as opposed to citric fruit and green apple – fruit than is usual for this cuvée. |

11/9/2021 - HowardNZ Likes this wine: 93 pointsThe latest release of one of NZ’s top Chardonnay cuvées. Very much a cool climate expression. It’s definitely not Chablis but it is probably as close to Chablis as NZ Chardonnay gets. Chalky minerality meets green apple and other green fruit but also some richer tasting grapefruit and tangelo citrus. There is some ripe citrus and orchard fruit offsetting the powerful, persistent acidity. It’s currently a bit primary and run but I see the potential here - by around 2023+ - for this wine to further improve. An excellent vintage! |

7/8/2019 - grapenomad wrote: 90 pointsTry getting your hands on this. Ha! Miniscule quantities of this incredibly tasty wine are produced every year and sell out like hotcakes. Could be a result of an older and younger generation teaming up and allowing each other to create without restrictions. This is truly “the real deal”. Made from 100% Pinot Gris with partial whole-bunch fermentation and 38 days on skins. Bottled proudly in a clear vessel. |

1/6/2020 - Beerzebub Likes this wine: NRBeer, cider, herbaceous/hops/hay sorts of aromas... normal for orange wine, I guess! On the palate some orchard fruit joins in, along the lines of barely ripe apple and white peach. Some bitterness develops toward the finish. Aperitivo-like. Enjoyable. Best not too cold. |

12/24/2021 - HowardNZ Likes this wine: NRThe (Temporary) Return of the Golden Weather: Autumn 2021 Visit to Central Otago: Small pour with the Ceres. Amber colour, a natural wine. A bouquet of candied orange peel and other fruits, sherry and Turkish delight. A clean mouth with vibrant acidity. Not varietal but enjoyable. Quite delicate. Some oxidised elements while, in other ways, quite primary and tight. Preferred over the Ceres. |

Medium weight and nicely glycerine, sort of mid-way between the oiliness of Alsatian Pinot Gris and the light crispness of Italian Pinot Grigio. A bundle of orchard fruit flavors, just off dry, fine acidity, and good bright closing minerality. Refreshing start to the tasting here and more than I expected. |

3/19/2018 - napadirt wrote: 94 pointsEnjoyed with prime ribeye at Redcliff Cafe Te Anau, NZ. Powerful Pinot Noir yet graceful. Strong fruit on the nose (cherry, plum) and tingly hints of the tannins that await. Fruit forward presentation but backed by complexity (which includes cinnamon!) but the tannins are the star. Shockingly well integrated and elegant for a 2016 vintage. Among the finest pinot noir I’ve tasted. 94++ |
