2015 Domaine Fourrier Morey St. Denis Clos Solon Vieille Vigne

This is a Fourrier that I rarely drink generally preferring to go to the Gevrey wines, but I must say this was quite good. The nose is ripe with a hint of menthol on the rich red fruits, a bit of game and earth. Definitely a bit different than the Gevrey wines. The palate is definitely classic Fourrier with lovely crunchy red fruits and violet, very elegant and suave, still a bit different than the Gevrey and quite tasty.

Great nose, but drying once the wine gets into the mouth… and on the finish too. The tastes are good, light cherry and twigs and earth, but I did the structure distracting, and given the amount of the structure here, not sure I’d wait for it to recede. Hmm.

Darker fruit.

  • Comment posted by MemorialWineFan:

5/25/2021 7:14:00 PM - Yes. I thought the fruit to be on the darker side. I have had several bottles and tried all sorts of things from decanting 5 hours, letting breathe out 7 hours, etc, but still not an great experience. Perhaps, with significant age this will change as do most burgs, but I simply don't have the space to age these over other bottles. I thought the village showed better than this 1ER. Note that this is not corked in any way, sour, ect. Just not too flavorful.

Wonderfully aromatic for a Bourgogne. There is very ripe creamy white orchard fruit in great balance with tensile acidity. Lemon peel and caraway seed fill out this wine that has great volume and precision. Totally over delivers for a Bourgogne. Why did I not buy a case? 1 lovely bottle remains.

9/13/2016 8:09:00 PM - I have bought all I could. 2014 white burg is a great year. I have drank about ten of these and just picked up another two cases. For the price point, what a deal. No wonder their Batard is about $300/bottle.

Surprisingly little sulfur in this queen of funk producer's brilliant NSG Blanc, a wine that has a broad palate, fresh attack, and perfect delineation on the clean, rich, mineral finish. This is a real gem, with heft, drive, and personality.

I had something a little more robust in mind tonight, but while I was puttering in the basement Megan opened this one. I was a little disappointed when I saw this open on the counter. Just telling you this you you see my state of mind.

Deep purple. Fruit and alcohol aroma. Solid body, lots of fruit, some oak, and an acidic finish. Seems like it has some good components but not tied together smoothly. Maybe too much oak too. That could fade, but will this last? Seems a little too basic for that to happen.

I generally like the Hall big boys. Was a member of the club for a few years then dropped out when I just could not figure out what they are doing with all the offerings. I'll pick up a sixer of Kathryn when the local has one.

The red label rocks and is good juice. Glad I have a bunch of it. I am bothered how they have raised pricing though....

1/30/2016 7:53:00 PM - I can't argue with that. I went to a 2006 tasting early this year and some of the wines surprised us. Many of the tasters went and purchased the next few days since the prices were so low.

  • Comment posted by MemorialWineFan:

1/30/2016 7:24:00 PM - The big Bordeaux tasting is in Houston in a few days. I am planning on not attending this year based on how bad the 2013 vintage has been talked about. 2014s are good and the 2015s are supposed to be spectacular and Bordeaux is not talking about it, because if they do the other vintages won't sell.

Hosting GC from WB: Blind. Sesame, herb, melon and spice. Quite high in acidity, the structure is there for this to age well and it really feels like it needs it, even more than the other two wines in this flight.

7/22/2016 8:31:00 PM - The risk of aging too much and premox....it's challenging. Good comment as I have some PYCMs that I am holding.

  • Comment posted by MemorialWineFan:

7/23/2016 3:56:00 AM - I am right where you are. I have been trying different ages to see if there is a good rule or not of which I have not found. I am thinking drink by five years. So far that has worked fairly well and I have caught some with the beginnings of premox. Though I did have a Dujac 1ER a few weeks ago that need several more years. Interestingly, that was due to how much sulfur was added. It was as if they wanted to make sure there was no oxidation so they went heavy with adding sulfur.

I was surprised at the tannins in this level of wine. I would suggest decanting for six plus hours before drinking a glass. Optimally, give it another few years in the cellar. Not sure what the potential really is at this point, but I can tell you it will get way better.

this moved around a lot over three days, here on day three i get cherry, rubber ball, dirt (nice dirt), log cabin (or is it a newly wood paneled office?), the palate is very nice, great mouthfeel, very smooth with the slightest tannin for grip, a little menthol to accent the cherries, menthol might actually be pine-like... really nice wine but i'm not sure its quite yet holds up to the $195 price tag... but gosh it is nice

What a wine. Best Merlot I tasted so far. 95% Merlot 4% Cab Sauv and 1% Pertit Verdot.

The nose just screams at you with espresso, perfumes, chocolate, and sexy blackberry and cassis. On the palate, this is smooth and highly delicious. Every sip is an endorphin rush. What a great wine. Very delicious. At this point this was 96pts easy.

EDIT: After about 3+ hrs in the decanter this got a bit salty, too sweet, and vanilla-y. Probably 90pt at best. Wasn't nearly as good compared to Pnp and up to 1hr decant. Maybe that explains the very low reviews here. I'd like to give it the benefit of the doubt though... but shouldn't this be a factor in rating wines? Their ability to remain tasty throughout? I mean, it only makes sense considering the rating is for the consumer's drinking experience.
