3/24/2017 - goodvitis.com Likes this wine: 91 pointsTropical elements on the nose of pineapple and mango along with Meyer lemon, flint and slate. The palate is medium bodied with crisp acidy but very polished and lush, it has a very luxurious mouthfeel. The fruit is gorgeously sweet with lemon curd and honeyed mango and melon. There's a smokey overtone which adds depth and variety, and a white pepper kick that catches your attention. Priced as a table wine, and not age worthy, it nevertheless significantly over performs, a.k.a. just another wine in the impressive Southard lineup. |

1/30/2016 - JasonG Likes this wine: 91 pointsJust gets better with time, sad this is my last bottle. Creamy character from concrete treatment shining through in lush palate coat, with still lively acids. Kiwi much more pronounced, sharp acids have pulled back a bit that plagued earlier bottles. The chalk and slate carry through the middle of this wine fantastically, with a pleasing strawberry and rhubarb finish. Perfect with Asian food. |

11/22/2015 - JasonG Likes this wine: 87 pointsLight salmon color, clearly just from crush whole berry. Slate nose with traces of kiwi and mango skin. Taste is rounder than expected, lacking brilliant acid structure. More gravel. This is a subtle wine that should be had with light creamy French cheeses. It's just ok, was hoping for more like Corsican rosé. |

The fruit profile of plum, dark cherry, and blackberry is not very primary now. Gains some weight and length with air, but finish never went beyond medium. Secondary flavors start with tobacco, then iron and stone show up with air, as well, and a faint hint of violet. If blind, I might have guessed a Bordeaux blend. Anyhow, while the Whipping Boy Cabernets seem to hold up well for 10 years past the vintage date, I don't think the same can be said for his other reds. Maybe more like 5 - 7 years for best drinking, when this wine would probably have garnered a 90+ score from me. |

4/15/2017 - fitchbuck Likes this wine: 90 pointsA year has done this wonders, esp. considering that awful soured element is now practically gone. While still just an average, low cost drinker upon PnP - what really blew me away was night #2. Not only did it evolve considerably... but it put forth the most unique nose the wife & I have ever snorted. Multiple huffs, and we still could not place the scent... it was wondrous-bordering-on-weird. |

5/15/2016 - dsgris Likes this wine: 91 pointsDark ruby with roses on the nose. Dry with slatey mineral, red fruits, olive tapenade, bold fruit and body, but retrained at the same time with a good balance of acid and tannins to keep the fruit sub dominant. Reminds me of a good Tuscan or Langhe. Drinking nicely. A winner @ $16. |
