2009 Chateau Ste. Michelle GewürztraminerColumbia Valley more |
6/23/2011 - missesthe90s wrote: 86 pointsNice, simple, inoffensive Gewurz. Probably can't stand up to food without a bit more acidity. But still, this is a well-made summer sippin' wine. |

2008 Massolino Barbera d'Albamore |
6/6/2011 - missesthe90s Likes this wine: 93 pointsThis remains one of my favorite Barbera d'Alba. Cool, forest-y, berry notes on the palate (primarily blackberry and cherry) with a very slight hint of raisin and prune -- not entirely unlike a Valpolicella Ripasso. Also a slight earthy-ness, and again, you get the distinct impression of pine forest. |

2008 Moshin Vineyards ChardonnaySonoma Coast more |
10/12/2010 - missesthe90s wrote: 91 pointsTasted @winery (10/12/10): Beautiful apricot and grapefruit notes on palate with excellent fruit/acidity balance and a very tasteful amount of oak. The single vineyard Chardonnay offerings were, sadly, forgettable. Not nearly as complex and interesting as this ironically more simple and less expensive offering. |

5/30/2011 - missesthe90s wrote: 92 pointsBrilliant example of a low-key Chardonnay from Sonoma. Slight hint of vanilla and toasted oak on the nose (not overbearing). Crisp, well-balanced acidity with lots of pink grapefruit and peaches-and-crream. Went goddamn GREAT with diver scallops quickly seared in guanciale fat. |

2007 Pierre Gaillard Côte-RôtieSyrah more |
7/11/2011 - missesthe90s Likes this wine: 95 pointsThis is the most well-balanced and well-made Côte-Rôtie that I've ever tasted. Tart cherry and fig on the palate and a wonderful floral aroma from the Viognier. Drinking very well right now, but could potentially benefit from another 2-3 years in the cellar. Highly, highly recommended. |

2007 Porter Creek Pinot Noir Fiona Hill VineyardRussian River Valley more |
10/12/2010 - missesthe90s wrote: 92 pointsTasted @winery (10/12/10): This is a stellar PN. Northern Burgundian in character with dried cherries and earth/truffle notes. Not at all overripened as is often the case with CA PNs (imo). Excellent acidity balance. Wonderfully complex. Like drinking velvet. My favorite of the current lineup at Porter. |

7/11/2011 - missesthe90s Does not like this wine: 80 pointsSadly underwhelming on the second try. Excellent showing at the winery, but fell flat after about 8 months in the cellar. Diluted, lifeless, not able to stand up to much of anything in terms of food. Interesting strawberry note on both the nose and palate, but not much else. |

2007 Quivira Zinfandel Dry Creek Valleymore |
6/18/2011 - missesthe90s wrote: 86 pointsBlackberries, prunes and briar patch. High-alcohol content overpowering at first but it burns off after about an hour in a decanter. Nice, fruity quaffer, but doesn't have the acidity structure to stand up to anything more than cheese and baguette, imo. |

2007 Kendall-Jackson Cabernet Sauvignon Vintner's ReserveCalifornia more |
9/26/2010 - missesthe90s wrote: 89 pointsVery very respectable CA cab. Not too oak-y. Lots of chocolate, cedar, plums, blackberries, good acidity balance. Still somewhat tannic as of 9/2010, but should mellow-out nicely in about a year. Also, not very high in alcohol content (13.5), which is a nice change of pace for CA. Served with butternut squash and sausage risotto. Paired beautifully. Excellent value. |

2006 Clos du Bois MarlstoneAlexander Valley Red Bordeaux Blend more |
10/16/2011 - missesthe90s wrote: 90 pointsPretty damn good, which surprised me because I don't care for much else from Clos du Bois (or any industrial-sized CA producer). Fat, plum-y fruit, cedar, tobacco, and a bit of toasted vanilla from the oak. Acidity is there, but not quite enough to really make it food-friendly. It's more of a quaffer... but a very good one. Recommend another 2ish years in the cellar as the tannins need a bit more time to mellow out. |

2004 Rocche Costamagna Barolo Bricco Francesco Rocche Dell'AnnunziataNebbiolo more |
9/10/2010 - missesthe90s wrote: 89 pointsWith the caveat that I drank this way too early (needs another 1-2 years at least), I would call it a fairly decent, low-end Barolo. The cinnamon and cedar on the palate, combined with gripping tannins, tend to throw the balance off somewhat. Again, it needs a few years to mellow out. I would recommend that you only drink now if you have several more waiting in the cellar. |

8/29/2011 - missesthe90s wrote: 94 pointsWow. Intense floral notes on nose and palate -- primarily honeysuckle. Medium body with good acidity balance even after nearly a decade in the cellar. Peaches and lemons. Wonderful example of a Riesling from Pfalz. |

8/13/2011 - missesthe90s wrote: 86 pointsA pretty okay NV Champagne, but but just okay -- nothing spectacular. Lemon, straw and tart apple on the palate. Good acidity. Lacking in yeast and complexity next to similarly-priced NV. Would not buy this again. |
