Initially very toasty, but as it warmed up just a bit (my preference), the stony and restrained fruit tastes took over to deliver a very good true
CHAMPAGNE experience. $29.99 @ Costco, how can you beat that?

Neverending !!!! Huge wine. A mountain in your mouth. Yes its big. Yes its very much. Not for the aristocrats out there. If you could let it be what it is. A monument of a wachau riesling !!! Than you are able to discover a universe of pressure and greatness ! Could not drink this every week, but once a year this is amazing !

Not so much fun. Very aristocratic and austere. Missing some flesh on the bone. Good drinkable for me , but not my wine.

A home brand Pinot from Wein & Co, a very successful wine merchant chain in Austria, produced by the Heinrich Winery.
Very clear dark reflexes, still ruby red colour. Fragrances of flowers as well as burnt almonds. Hints of cherries, too. For an Austrian Pinot it got a rather cold character. Not as broad as many Austrian state of the art Pinots. The prime flavour is dominated by dark cherries and dark forest berries. Its acid is rather weak. The tannins are still present and a bit hard. I would not call this one bone dry. There might be a bit too much fruit sweetness. So far so satisfying. Now the only real problem. The lenght of the finish in mediorce, maybe even distressingly short. Price is still okay.

11/30/2012 2:04:00 AM - I had a 2000 Judith Beck Pinot Noir lately. I thought it to be over the peak but it was just perfect. What a cracker! So what would be your suggestion on the optimal drink date of the Vintage Selection 2009?

12/3/2012 4:53:00 AM - I guess you are right. Wein & Co. seems to be a bit to optimistic. I looked it up an they suggest 2015. I got three bottles, one for each year 2012 through 2014 ;-)

I have nothing but good things to say about this wine. Overall pleasant, far from overpowering, a rare find indeed - especially at this price.

Decanted for an hour.Have a case of this wine, and thought I would try the first bottle.

Green gold in the glass, the nose is full on lime and lemon - its a minerally nose, like crushed up rocks. The palate though is the real star -it opens with some upfront sweetness, but it is lovely, candied and well integrated. The palate then draws out long, lean and citrussy, finishing with acidity that is almost painful in its intensity - searingly, hard core limey acidity which is not for the faint hearted but I really enjoy.Super with scallops I suspect but I am eating pasta and still happy!!
Not sure whether I will open another for sometime although frankly I would welcome some feedback from others, whether this wine is likely to appreciate more time in bottle Very Good/Excellent? 13.5abv

8/26/2010 1:40:00 AM - The German 2007 Rieslings have a very good balance between fruit and acid. The Wittmann will improve for another 12 to 24 months. Instead, you can also open the bottle and keept it in the frige for one or two more days, the try again, you will be surprised.

Fantastic Riesling. It has a typical Rheingau pale yellow colour. In the nose, exotic aromas such as Mango, Pineapple and passion fruit prevail. It is very round and subtle on the palate. In short, for the price a fantastic fun Riesling.

Last bottle, drank on 17th-18th May 2010. Cork in pristine condition, colourful, shades/impressions of orange on the rim.
Good, and even more than simply good. Still powerful with grip, not very complex but with volume, long. Hints of spice.
What is less good is a lack of precision towards the end and some excessive bitterness - and I am usually fond of bitterness. The wine was in good shape and it could have lasted up to 5 more years - if cellared in proper conditions.
Warning: a bottle like this might be found at bargain prices, anything up to 25 € would be worth of consideration; but this was the only good bottle I got out of 4 I purchased, the others were tainted. So ...

8/26/2010 2:08:00 AM - Agree, had six bottles, drank two, one of it was flawed. Keep my fingers crossed that the other four are still going strong. I will give one away as a present and keep three to drink up until X-Mas
