Aromas are of plum, prune, stewed cherry, baked strawberry, leather, red licorice, and a vague touch of animal fur. The palate shows the very ripe and sweet tinged fruit on entry with significant licorice, tar, and baked strawberry on the mid-palate. Tannin is very low with medium minus acid. The finish goes quite stewed, especially with air. All in all I think this wine was better younger, or at least that's how I remember it. Seems the hot 2007 vintage has caught up to it here, offering up a profile that is just too ripe for my tastes and the secondary and tertiary development isn't providing much to balance things out. |
