PnP. Nice golden color. Appealing aromas of ripe apples, oak, pears and hazelnuts. Rich but extremely well balanced palate. Long but elegant finish. Best Cali Chard I've had all year. Clearly at peak - has a bit of acid so maybe has another year at this level, but I'd drink up sooner than later. Absolutely delightful!!

[from magnum. soft and damp cork. moderate very fine sediment in bottle. three-hour decant.]

garnet in the glass that grows darker and cloudier. sous bois, mushrooms and pine needles mingle with red and black cherries and sweet plum compote in the nose. generous in the mouth with bright acidity and chalky but still tannins. the layers of sour cherry, red currant and black plum are thoroughly permeated by tertiary flavours of mushroom, leather, and dried savoury herbs. a notable spice vein of clove and tobacco grows mid-palate and carries thru the long finish along with somewhat stewed fruit notes.

quite complex and enjoyable, with the ripeness of the vintage detracting from the elegance this wine can often achieve. very much alive in large format (in spite of its provenance from the less than ideal Calera library) with plenty of fruit and structure to drink thru the decade.

14% AbV stated; below-average 1.32 tons/acre yield; sixteen months' ageing in French oak barrels (15% new).

Part of an American Pinot Noir night with 8 members of my wine group. While very good (I wavered between 90 and 91 points), it was my least favorite of the night. Very Burgundian, as it is a light bodied, medium length finish, with more spice than fruit. I had it slightly behind the 2018 Ken Wright we had alongside it, and at this price, I'd rather buy the Ken Wright wines.

Like others have said, very Burgundian. This had some lovely tart berry. I can't believe it, but this might have even been too young? Better on night two.

Lovely, complex aroma with red fruit and herbs and that signature Calera “dustiness”. Still tons of fruit with a nice backbone of acidity. This is drinking beautifully right now but no rush.

At times this had a touch of excess VA but when it didn't, this was a nice fully developed and mature Pinot. Earthy, fruity, and complex. Hit all the right notes.

Gong Hey Fatt Choy! Chinese New Years eve, reunion dinner with my brothers and family, joined by my mum too.

Strawberry aromatics on nose with underlying creamy oak, evolving to cherry too.

Full bodied Pinot, light minerality on the palate. Lightly grippy tannins, acidity M.

100% Pinot Noir grapes grown in the Mt.Harlan AVA region of California. Aged in French oak barrels for 16 months, and has all the hallmarks of an ageworthy Pinot.

2018 was a fantastic growing season. Medium length finish, with white pepper on the back palate. 🇲🇾 Fish Market, Mont Kiara

Hahaaa the red fruit nose gave this away quite quickly, all the lads said Pinot!

And all but one said NW (new world) too, however they were torn between NZ and Australian. Turns out.. its a Napa wine!

Red cherries classical NW nose, perhaps a little young and needed some coaxing to open up. Reminds me of a brighter Geelong By Farr type style, but with more earthy notes in turn Burgundian style which was very enjoyable.

Late sweetness and a wine which is clearly still developing, try again closer to 2029...

Acidity M, and still slightly grippy tannins, with a medium-long finish. My sharing, humble perhaps compared to the generous brothers' clarets but nevertheless in this company, and with the heavy Chinese cuisine at Extra Supertanker.. it clearly stood shoulder to shoulder with its exalted brethren.

So glad to be able to bring a clearly contrasting varietal and maker, considering we were in the company of 3 massive wines such as the iconic Unico 2012, RWT Shiraz 2001 and the delicious Kay Brothers Block 6. Thanks brothers TC and VC as well as new buddy KM for bringing such wonderful bottles along!

Very nice new world Viognier from Mt Harlan’s chalky soil — apparently gleaned from some of the original imported vines to California.

Carries a classic perfumed nose of jasmine, citrus blossom, baked apple, mandarin orange, clotted cream, gravel and light spice elements.

Palate shows fleshy full-bodied weight with a nice counter-balance of brisk acidity.

Great, if not as immediately compelling and vibrant as Condrieu.

Crystal crimson in colour, dark cherry fruit, plum, very pure, baking spices , licorice, a little hot on the nose, eucalyptus, black tea. In no way is this fruit overtly ripe, it is bright and fresh.
Beautifully crisp on the palate, very fresh. This is a great Pinot for food; I would be pairing this with salmon off the grill on a bed of quinoa. I’m not sure you can ask much more from a wineries entry level wine.

👃 Ripe strawberry, dark fruit, earth, blood, black tea, forest floor and wet leaves.

👅 Medium-bodied (ABV 14.1%) with fresh acidity (m), smooth silky well-behaved tannins, sour cherry on the palate. Pretty long finish of cherry infused black tea.

👀 Pale ruby.

📝 Calera’s limestone terroir (unusual for California) is also one of the coldest sites in California. This shows in the profile of this wine, which is in a very good place right now. High intensity on the nose and palate and a fine grained mouthfeel. In the negative side, the wine is a bit too “hot” and the alcohol is not perfectly integrated.

Very dark red/crimson in color. Quite aromatic on the nose showing lots of baking spices, dark (black) small berries, black plums and graphite/herbs. Palate starts off focused but then gets shuts down hard to reveal a harsh and tannic pinot with candied black small fruits, medium(+) acidity and spice perfumed finish.

Pale ruby colour. Medium and developing nose with ripe strawberry, ripe red cherry, dark chocolate, forest floor, tea leaves, earth and savory. Medium taste of ripe strawberry, ripe raspberry, dried herbs, dark chocolate, earth and savory. Long and dry finish. Medium acidity. Medium (-) and grainy tannins. Full body. A very good Californian Pinot Noir. Drink now or over the next couple of years. Goes well with duck or poultry.

One of our favorite go-to house whites that compliment a variety of foods. Balanced acidity:stone fruit with yummy character and finish that appreciates a bit of aging. Being one of our favored 'raised-on-Rhone' varietals this is particularly appreciated for its excellent QPR and consistent quality.

Deep dark red center, red rim with clear signs of age.
Sweet, ripe roasted cherries and plums, touch of barnyard.
Smooth, vine sap, raspberries and black cherries, integrated oak, noticeable alcohol (14.9% stated), licorice, sweetish, modest tannin and acidity, some ginger cake, quite leafy on the finish.
Excellent CA Pinot, fully mature (from a magnum), great fruit but the whole package is bit over the top for my tastes (alcohol, sweetness). Great QPR at $60.

My local "big group" Sunday dinner. Theme was"CA wines not from Napa". And, we got a fun range to share at BLVD Kitchen. This was another standout btl for me tonight. This lived up to the producer's reputation for old school Burgundy aspirations from Ca terroir. Calera's late founder Josh Jenson went on a dogged one-man mission to find a spot in Ca to replicate Burgundy's terroir and largely succeeded. To this day, I don't think anyone else has planted nearby vineyards to his one and only stony Mt Harland AVA. This btl showed; exemplary finesse, fruit purity & weightless elegance. Terrific. I need to add this to my buy list! 94+ Thank you Robert!

Brought by a friend already double decanted and tasted over several hours. Nice fully mature bottle, perhaps a touch past prime but really complex and delicious, hints of florals and earthy, stony and spicy elements surrounding a a cherry fruit core. The nose was quite captivating early on but got a little more rustic later. Nice long, slightly chocolatey finish. Warm vintage and resulting in 14.9% ABV which was not really noticeable.
