4/8/2024 - Magcleve4 Likes this wine: 89 pointsStepping out of its prime, with a steady nose of oxidized fruit and butterscotch. Palate is great, with classic chenin fruit to wool progression, and a refreshing herbal and mineral finish |

Fruity that is washed out by alcohol which creates a somewhat bitter experience. Nice acidic pop, fruit is somewhat dull. Interesting combination of grapes -- syrah, carignane, cinsault. The cinsault really dominates and the other grapes are really quite subtle with some flare of the syrah on the back end to add some complexity to an otherwise simple wine. Pretty interesting stuff. Agree with the other taster for the 21 that there are definite raspberry themes. Perhaps some tangerine. |

Definitely red fruit driven, no Rhone funk, it's clean; don't mean that negatively, love and drink a lot of Rhones. At least for me, not overly ripe, just walks the line. And no oak chips or saw dust. I really enjoy cinsault's and carignan, combined, these are most of the blend, maybe another reason for my enjoyment of this wine. Do you find this review helpful? 6/2/2021 - JM_MadTown Likes this wine: 88 pointsThis wine has a nice fruity nose and pear, lemon cure and grapefruit on the palate. Plus it has good minerality and zippy acidity. It has a creamy finish to it with a round, full mouthfeel and medium body. It’s a good QPR. |

One of my main small, family owned groceries that I love, doesn't have a good wine section. but this intrigued me because of the 56% Cinsault and 15% Carignan in the blend and I am a fan of both grapes. I really liked this at $14.99 and they do not have competitive wine pricing, but IMO well worth it. Just fresh Rhone varietals without obnoxious wood. I will buy more. Highly recommend for a mid week, inexpensive wine that you can actually enjoy. |

I've been immersed in SA wines recently, and this one is not remarkable--staying with notable for its durability and adequacy. This is from Swartland which, I'm told by Cape cognoscenti, is currently trendy but overrated. This is my only example from the area so I have no evidence to the contrary. I've had much better non-Swartland SA CB for the money recently but doubt that any of it will make to North America--pity. |

9/25/2018 - Oenecnist wrote: NRBought from Wine Library last spring as a Cinderella "super value white 2-pack" along with a bottle of '16 Maculan Pinot & Toi for 17/pack; I bought 3 packs. I would impute a price of 9.50/b for this bottle and 7.50 for the Maculan. Pale straw color with green tinge, modest nose, grassy with very good mouthfeel. Trying my first bottle of this with salmon and tuna sushi may not have been a fair test--it seemed lost, well before the wasabi. Stored vertically (screwcap) in a cool, dark basement since purchase. My evaluation: I've stopped giving scores on a "100-point scale" as I've become less convinced that they can be meaningful to others. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. I considered this notable when considering quality, age, and price but consider that conditional; I'll try again without food or with more complementary food. |
