Excellent NR Syrah with some funkiness, 100% stainless steel. Decant if opening soon. Has years ahead.

Not a style of wine I drink very often so I won’t leave a score, but I thought this was rather terrible. I’m wondering if my bottle was flawed in light of the positive comments here.

Hazy orange/brown in the glass, it looked about like iced tea. The nose is sherried with some marshmallow and spoiled nuts. It gets a little better with air but 3 of us were unable to finish the bottle. I won’t buy it again.

Tannins remain fairly strong while the fruit is fading, unbalanced overall. Tasted over several hours of decanting. I did not like the tasting experience much. Should have enjoyed this last bottle a year ago.

Floral and aromatic nose, purple/violet in color. Kept improving with decanting. Classic blackberry and blueberry, bacon, smoked minerality on the palate. Drinks well already with decanting.

A private dinner with a friend (Café Parlotte, Amsterdam, NL): From a 0.66 hectare parcel in Oger, vinified separately since 2010 to see what the difference would be with his Chetillons which is 500 metres away in Le Mesnil. The vinification of both wines is identical (fermented and aged in barrel until the summer after the harvest, full malo, bottled without filtration, maturation sur lattes under natural cork), disgorged December 2021 with a dosage of 2.5 gr/l. The north-facing Vozémieux is beautifully rounded and generous, complex and richly textured, mouthfilling with ripe stone fruit, citrus zest, brioche and a touch of ginger, complete and convincing finish. Top notch. In comparison, Les Chetillons, which faces south-east, is usually much more linear and direct, with tendency towards a certain austerity.

(Opened on my son's 10th bday.) Despite decanting for 5 hours, it was still fairly primary in its high acidity, strong tannins, and plenty of somewhat integrated wood. Years away from its peak.

  • Comment posted by Slaz:

8/21/2023 2:26:00 PM - Pretty slow, agreed. Would you be able to enjoy it with some decanting? Most likely yes. Would you be impressed relative to expectations and where it should be 10 years from now? Most likely no.

  • Comment posted by Slaz:

8/21/2023 6:15:00 PM - @ Hendmo: Good question! I think there is plenty of acidity and tannins to last for years to come (given that it's 17 years out already). What I am less certain about is how much complexity and tertiary notes this will yield in 10+ years, i.e., it has to be more than currently, but what exactly is to be seen! I just wished I had multiple lives to experience these evolutions LOL

  • Comment posted by Slaz:

8/21/2023 7:20:00 PM - No crystal ball here, Mark. Depending on how many bottles you have, taste and track the evolution over time---your call will be as good as anyone's here! ;)

A very interesting combination of flavors - strawberries + raspberries with a full body and dry, lightly savory, black cherry finish. The palate has weight, yet feels very round. The fruits are flavorful, but still fresh.

Its a very interesting combination of elements for a rose - I love this interpretation of rose from Corison. I'll definitely be getting more.

My second bottle since 2019 when I first tried it. Takes few hours of decanting to open up. Fairly rich but largely balanced. Should improve further. I continue to think this is grossly overpriced relative to many terrific Italian gems at this price point.

A fairly mediocre GSM that is neither bad nor memorable (nor remarkable). Pales in comparison to a good CdP (and most certainly not anywhere close to Beaucastel). Tasted over several hours of breathing; tannins could use another year to soften and integrate further, btw.

12/14/2021 4:59:00 PM - Sure, you are free to have your methods. I have my own after 20+ years and thousands of tastings. Please share your TNs and move on. Also, instead of attacking take the time to review the TNs more closely next time, my June 13, 2020 TN was over several nights and consistent with this 2019 note: "This is not a particularly good or memorable GSM, especially given a nearly $40 price tag. It's fruity and ripe, with at most low-to-moderate acidity and barely detectable complexity. Tasted over several nights with no real evolution. I wouldn't buy it again, frankly."

Tremendous; old-world style. But also ridiculously young and shy. Several hours of decanting helped reveal exceptional energy, mineral and earthy streaks, with lots of clay and red berry notes. Much joy, especially in further expectation.

11/6/2020 7:27:00 PM - Thanks for your comment, srh! Regarding the additional cellar time, this could easily use 5 more years and I'm not convinced it will be at its peak; waiting for 10 more years would be ideal. As for your article, I've finally figured out how to access it---the one I'm seeing was last updated by you on April 20 :)
