Decanted for 2 hours and was very funky until hour 3. Kept trying to approach it but it was giving me tons of barnyard and funky smelling horse. This all blew off in the third hour. Have some patience with this. It is a special wine. The drinking window extends to 2030 IMHO.

5/16/2022 11:18:00 AM - The wine was decanted for two hours and then consumed over 1-2 hours. I didn't bring the wine, and we were drinking it in a small group. I was drinking it initially to be polite and thinking the wine was amazingly funky. The wine is drinking well now, just wait for it to get enough air. We likely drank 1/3 of the bottle when it was not in the right place. Sometimes that happens when everyone is trying to be polite.

Tight as a drum but started to open up after a few hours. Time will tell if this will rival the 2009. Fruit is there but too much structure for now. Maybe time will mellow it out.

12/31/2014 8:53:00 AM - I can't tell if you are saying that the wine sucks (i.e. 86 score), or simply you opened it too early and thus the wine is not good now because it is too young and has the potential to get better?

Excellent nose and mouthfeel. Unfortunately, the mid section is now in hibernation and the finish is hot. Hold for a while longer otherwise you're wasting your money. Decanted all day for this result.

12/5/2014 7:38:00 AM - I have been sitting on these and am hopeful that my patience will pay off. I haven't bought any additional blue label bottlings as I am unsure if it is worth the extra money. I find the standard bottling to be excellent. Sounds like another 3-5 years on this and might be time to "check in". Thanks.

I don't like this wine at all. It tastes like cherry cola with alcohol in it. I would call it a wine "beverage product" before calling it a wine.

12/1/2014 9:36:00 AM - This guy obviously has a chip on his shoulder. After reading some of his other comments (and there are a ton of negative comments on wines that he/she drinks) there are 3 possibilities that come to mind 1) This person buys a ton of bad wine, 2) This person is hyper-critical of wine or 3) This person enjoys the attention from negative reviews. I would guess number 3.

Approx. 30 min. decant ... This is ripe and rich, but not heavy or oaky. A big, big wine that opens with a big blue-black fruit punch to the palate, followed with bracing tannins and big acid pop, offering balance and interest. There is also spice and some cream, and just a hint of licorice. Drinks like a young wine, with room to develop further.

Overall very, very enjoyable and clearly well made, but I have to say that I still think Herman Story is doing this juicy Paso style better than anyone else, at a better price point than Nicora, making this a good wine, but a less than awesome QPR.

11/8/2014 5:33:00 PM - Good comments. I would say that I think your might be splitting hairs here regarding QPR. Herman Story wines are pretty similar in terms of price - $5 bucks less or so. Is that really that big of a difference? If Nicora were a $100 wine then I would agree with you 100%, but that is not the case.

Wow. Compelling wine. Tight and unyielding on day 1, singing five octaves on day 2. Not at all overripe or hot, this is well balanced with ample acidity and a firm tannic structure. Cool red and black fruits, savory herbs and bloody meat, black licorice and granitic mineral. Pure and authentic Syrah from California. Brilliant!

Much better in its youth and by youth I mean on release. The nose is predictable RRV cinnamon and baking spices and ripe (candied??) strawberry. On the palate there was an artificial flavor aspect which I didn't like. The acidity and freshness this wine possessed on release was just nowhere to be found - now it feels big and clumsy. Disappointing prospects as I really loved this wine and this vineyard.

I like zippy wines as much as anyone, but this has more acid than 1 60's hippie convention. I am still searching for a dentist to replace the enamel on my teeth. Yes, this wine will outlast me, and probably my future grandchildren, but I wonder if it will ever tone down some to let the elegant light red fruit be enjoyed. I don't know how the hell to score this as future potential seemingly will get it up to the high 80's, but now....

Pop and pour and served with BBQ baby back ribs with a tomato based sauce. Big, rich and dark wine. Some sweetness from the grenache. Shows good spice and earth notes. Presents a bit of heat with the spice from the BBQ sauce. Better without spicy foods. This has enough acidity to carry the richness of the fruit.
