Schloss Johannisberg's super-prestige dry white wine, aged for 30 months on the lees in a single 1200 litre barrel from the estate's own forest. The oaky, leesy style is certainly unique in the Rheingau, a throwback to how wines were made there a century ago. At present the élévage is still pretty dominant on the nose - the fruit and the minerality only show themselves with a lot of air and at a higher temperature. The palate is very compact, tightly wound, elegant and energetic but not very giving; the finish is long and tight, but with a welcome touch of that quintessental Johannisberg character. This is clearly designed for the long haul. Revisit in 2028. |

Much the same as I remember from my previous bottle from about a year ago (no note posted though). This is a beautiful clear golden yellow in the glass. There are aromas of white fruit which are replicated on the palate with a touch of grapefruit and wet slate. Acidity is medium,.which balances a slight residual sweetness that becomes noticeable as it warms up in the glass. This is better cooled but not chilled right down. There is no gas, but it's just slightly effervescent on the tongue. It all makes for a fantastic dry Riesling, which is excellent QPR. It probably won't improve much from here, but no reason to think it will go downhill any time soon. |

It is certainly worth the 15,00€ I paid for it even if this was for a regular bottle of 0,75L (and not a 5L bucket 😉) |
