Pre-phylloxera and ungrafted old vine Tinta de Toro. Aged 20 months in new French oak.
Scents of dark cherry, blackberry and plum come streaked with blue and purple fruits, spice, liquid violets, toasty oak nuances, vanilla, cigar box and herbs with trace aromas of fig preserve, fine soft leather, felt tip marker and warm earth notes.
The palate shows good density with an almost creamy texture that works well with the full fine-grained tannins and structured moderate-plus acidity. Suave flavors of black, blue and purple fruits comingle with spice, leather, herbs, floral pastilles, toasty oak and vanilla creme. The grippy finish lingers with a show of class.

Deep ruby. Aromas of dark cherries, prunes, cassis, licorice, tobacco, leather, spices. Wine is full bodied with medium acidity, fully integrated tannins. Taste of cherry compot, plums, coffee. Long.

ENGLISH:
Nose: Already slightly fermented plum with pit left in it, some black pepper, but also fresh flowers (elderberry?), violets and dark chocolate, bread crust
Taste: Walnut, great, juicy, full body with the necessary acidity to freshen it up, blackberries, plums, violets, a hint of black pepper, dry tobacco, some fine oak, nutmeg, then fresher on the finish, sour cherry
Comment: Beautiful dry tobacco and spicy notes are livened up nicely by fresh acidity, especially on the finish.

ORIGINAL (GERMAN):
Nose: Schon leicht fermentierte Pflaume mit Kern, etwas schwarzer Pfeffer, aber auch frische Blüten (Holunder?), Veilchen und Bitterschokolade, Brotkruste
Taste: Walnuss, toller, saftig-voller Körper mit der nötigen Säure zum Auffrischen, Brombeeren, Pflaumen, Veilchen, Hauch schwarzer Pfeffer, trockener Tabak, etwas feine Eiche, Muskat, im Abgang dann frischer, Sauerkirsche
Comment: Schöne trockene Tabak- und Würznoten werden durch frische Säure speziell im Finish schön aufgelockert.

Deep ruby color. Aromas of plums, prunes, blackberry, pepper, graphite, leather, earth. Full bodied, medium+ acidity, firm tannins. Taste of dark fruit and dark chocolate. Wine is dense and very long. Still developing.

Age has done this wine well. The huge primary fruit has mellowed and this has turned into a very balanced wine that is delicious and smooth.

Por copas. Crianza de 6 meses en barricas de roble francés. Volumen alcohólico de 14,5%. El vino menor de la bodega que ofrece notas frutales de bayas rojas y de cerezas junto con otras florales y balsámicas. Jugoso en boca, de una fresca acidez y un final de un claro acento tánico. Incipiente tipicidad de Toro que necesitará los preceptivos ocho años de reposo para mostrar sus verdaderas cualidades.

Decanted, I think it was 2 hours. A great wine. Ready to drink from my point of view. Initially it had some heat, but with decanting everything came into better balance. 93-94 pts. at the moment.

Good wine but had a difficult time after a campo de borja grenache and a top notch syrah. Good balance, seemed almost light bodied after those two. Definitely good acidity!

De druiven voor deze 'Almirez' zijn afkomstig van 15 tot 65 jaar oude wijnstokken en worden handmatig geoogst in de tweede week van oktober. Na de vergisting rijpt de wijn 14 maanden op Frans eiken.

Almirez heeft tonen van zwarte bessen, caramel, koffie, mineralen, tabak en eikenhout. De tannines zijn goed geïntegreerd en de afdronk is lang en vol.
Mooi op dronk, maar kan zich tenminste tot 2022 nog verder ontwikkelen. Uitstekende combinatie met ossehaas, wild, lamsvlees, pate, jamon en harde kazen.

Dark core, slightly brownish rim. Lobenberg writes about old vines partly prephiloxera. Organic manure. Small yields lead to an immense concentration. Very ripe harvest. On the verge of jammy. Still some freshness from its acidity. Dark fruit aromas, spicy. Not overdone with wood. Interesting wine. Quite a contrast to Cune Real Reserva 2016 which was less bold but with equally ripe or maybe tamed tannins.

Here is Smokey and the bandit in a bottle. Big, rich, spice, dark, sweet, bring out the BBQ or maybe the lamb-tagine, this boy will clear the table anyway. Bit of a brute, but a charming. A bit on the x-pensive side.

Still a powerfull mocha infused companion. Does mellow out a bit compared to the beastyness it had a few years back but I also seem to note a step back in complexity and completeness. Or I have become a more critical taster over the past few years...

Der Basiswein von Teso la Monja aus alten Tempranillo-Rebstöcken. Deutlich auf der fruchtigen Seite: vor allem Noten von Kirsche und Pflaume. Dazu kommen etwas Holz, leichte Rösttöne, Kaffee und Gewürze. Vollmundig und elegant, guter Abgang. Derzeit ist der Wein allerdings noch zu jung. Die Tannine sind dominant, der Almirez braucht viel Luft und sollte eigentlich noch ein, zwei Jahre in der Flasche reifen.
