No rating, as per Cappellano's wishes (read the back label; what a statement!) but this is easily the best Barolo I've ever experienced. The tannins have melted, and the wine itself is melt-in-your-mouth scrumptious. So, so good. Could go for a couple more years, maybe many more, but I chose not to wait, and I am 100% happy with that decision! 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

Mature notes of old-school Barolo, similar to some of my last bottles, it‘s not my best but also not my worst bottle of this, showing the silky texture and finesse Cappellano can show when it‘s on, but also a little too much oxidation for my personal taste. Still enjoyable to drink a glass or two, clearly inferior to Elio Grasso Barolo Gavarini Chiniera 2004 and Brovia Barolo Ca‘Mia 2004 on this day though. |

4/13/2024 - oenanthe Likes this wine: 90 pointsDark and distinctive. Somebody has bottled a negroni, it's uncanny, but significantly more bitter than that drink. So bitter it is ridiculous, this sounds terrible but in a way it reminded me of bile and covonia cough medicine, which you would have to say is not a good thing! When I thought of this I immediately started to instead think about negronis, herbs, benedictine monks and aesop handwash until it passed, and then I was OK. Tons of interest but ultimately this is a tough one and very much an aquired taste. It was so intriguing it was hard to stop drinking it, and only the inbound 88 bus got me on my feet. |

4/13/2024 - Joshvoulters Likes this wine: 93 pointsFrance vs ROW (Home): Just give me a glass of this to sniff and turn the lights off. I love the boldness here - hugely dry, medicinal, herbal nose. I don't have the faculties to unpick what I'm smelling but it's the Northern Italian Christmas of your dreams made manifest. Honestly it's kind of challenging - initially bitter, leafy on the palate with a sweet and structured depth swelling beneath to balance it out. Feels like a remedy… and I've got the sickness |

4/13/2024 - aagrawal wrote: NRStood up for months, still fine sediment swirls in the last 2-3oz decanted off. Deep ruby, youthful color; high intensity aromatics, smoky, black cherry, plums; full bodied, high acidity, high alcohol (14.5%) which shows just a bit in this warm year, low-medium tannin, black fruited; medium length finish. One of the best Barberas produced, though it does show the warmth of the year. Barbera has such a unique texture and flavor profile, and it's incredibly food friendly. In line with other Cappellano Barbera in terms of overall quality and complexity (high). |

4/12/2024 - SARED Likes this wine: 96 points95-96. Double decanted in the AM, drank in evening. Nose was pouring out of the glass. Wears its labeled 15% alc like something lower (I would guess 14.5%). Great transparency of fruit and complexity on the palate. This is going to be a hauntingly good wine in another 10 years, when the fruit fades to more complexity and the tannins melt further - 96 potential. |

3/21/2024 - randyjc wrote: 98 pointsWow. Just wow. I’ve always carried around in my head the mythical top ten wines ever tasted list. This is on it. A near-perfect wine. On the nose it brings tart cherry, currant, menthol, sandalwood, and tar. Brilliant nose - took me three or four minutes to move on to the taste, which didn’t disappoint. Silky, medium-plus tannins. High-minus acidity, still - at nearly age 20. A bit of masculine earthiness in a mouth feel that is so pure. Remarkably fine-grained tannins. A hint of balsamic that comes and goes quickly. Bright red cherry, balsa wood, menthol and tar. A long, gorgeous finish. A soulful wine. On the table with a 2000 Leoville Barton and a 2007 Biondi Santi and this was the one I was most sad to bid adieu. |

3/13/2024 - kenv Likes this wine: NR2006 Barolo (Trattoria One Fifth, NYC.): [Double-decanted for one hour around 10am.] Muted nose of black fruit and brown sugar. Mature but complex and long. Too advanced for this wine after only 18 years. I hope this was just an off bottle. Others in the group said they've had this with random bottles of this wine. |

3/3/2024 - Dave Canada wrote: 95 pointsThis is just such a beautiful wine....I have had it more than 10 times over the past 6 years and it always performs but this bottle seems to have density and structure right now to allow for some longer ageing than I typically prefer for Cappellano. Drinking so well now but will improve. |

3/3/2024 - KVT99 Likes this wine: 94 pointsRedish with orange/brown tint. On the nose, roses and menthol . Took a while to develop but after getting some air quite powerful while being light bodied. Red berries on the palate with some tertiary notes as well, long taste. Maybe drinks slightly hot (15% ABV)? Great wine all things considered |

2/11/2024 - jnewman77 Likes this wine: NRReally good; classic Cappellano; savory, earthy, dark fruit, feels brooding and tight, but opens more than the initial notes make you think; powerful and full this was really very good and starting to enter maturity though it still has loads of time. |
