3/9/2024 - Jeff Leve wrote: 95 pointsFlowers. espresso, roasted plums, incense, chocolate-coated black cherries, and smoke create the attention-seeking perfume. On the palate, the wine packed with rich, spicy, black raspberries, plums, and black cherries, with nuances of dark chocolate, licorice, espresso and spice, with a dash of salt that comes in at the end of the finish. The yields were low at 20 hectoliters hectare, about half of the normal production, so this is going to be very hard, if not impossible to find after release. This is a very strong wine for the vintage. Drink from 2025-2045. |

11/8/2023 - Lord of the Bottles Likes this wine: 95 pointsThis was outshone by a 2000 Trotanoy drank side by side but was still able to hold its own. Quite youthful still if not overtly muscular, took some time to open to generous red berry fruit and deep chocolate along with a hint of green pepper (though not as pronounced as the more aged Trotanoy). If you have more than 1 bottle no harm to enjoy its youth now with a quick decant otherwise hold. 94-95/100 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

Ripe, blackberry, dry, oaky, big and way too young, hard to evaluate through the wood, though the tannins are more moderate and round. I'm with galeweskj on this, it was a hard transition and it just wasn't all there. No score. Though I preferred it to the '12 Blankiet in a no contest victory. Group vote was 7-2 for the La Violette. |

10/19/2023 - I'd Rather Be Drinking Wine Likes this wine: 94 pointsJudgement of Eagan Wine Tasting (Jason's House): This wine was pitted against a 2012 Blanket Rive Droit. First, as others have noted, this flight may have suffered because everyone's palate was well intrenched in older wines....I know a 10 and a 14 year old wine is not exactly young, but everything is relative, as we just drank several 30 to 40 year old wines. In retrospect, I should have had a Champagne palate cleanser right before this flight to refresh everyone's palate. Oh well, live and learn! Between the two wines, the La Violette was the class of the flight, which was semi-amazing in that the Blanket showed so well just a few weeks before. I chalk it up to timing and pairing. But isn't this one reason we drink wine....to keep learning?! 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

10/19/2023 - galewskj wrote: NRJudgement of Eagan (Jason's house): Here is an interesting example of perspective. We drank a 2012 La Violette by itself a few months ago, and it was off the hook. Tonight, after a line-up of older wines, the youth and the largeness of this wine bothered me. So primary, so much fruit. Anyway, fresh fruit, needs more character. At least it was smoother and not as large as the 2012 Blankiet served next to it. I'm not scoring this, and my point is it was such a rough transition from previous wines that I am incapable of making that leap, but my gut enjoyment level would not exceed 90 tonight. 1 person found this helpful, do you? 7/1/2023 - Lord of the Bottles Likes this wine: 92 pointsBottle 4/6. Taken to a restaurant and preceded by ‘98 Dom Perignon. This bottle was more closed and tanic than prior wines, needed a lot of coaxing from the decanter to deliver. Classic right bank berries and mocha. |

5/26/2023 - Lord of the Bottles Likes this wine: 95 pointsThe 2008 La Violette Pomerol was an exquisite stand-in for a slightly oxidized Meursault. Bursting with damson fruit a la Petrus along with a coffee and dark Belgian chocolate finish I often associate with VCC. Uber-concentrated and long and green pipe tobacco notes evolved with air. 95+/100 |

On the palate, the wine is filled with layers of black, blue, and red fruits, supple creamy, polished textures, length and width. The wine was produced from 100% Merlot. 14.5% ABV. 3/21/2023 - Jeff Leve wrote: 96 pointsViolets and lilacs were on full display in the opening notes of the aromatic profile before moving on to all of its spice, espresso, dark red pit fruits, wet earth and chocolate nuances. The best part of the experience however, is on the supple-textured palate with its waves of black and dark red fruits, creamy, lush tannins and long, rich, chocolate-tinted finish. With its tiny production, if you are a fan of La Violette, you will need to jump on it quickly, as very little wine was made. Drink from 2027-2050. |

12/25/2022 - Lord of the Bottles Likes this wine: 94 pointsThis was the remaining 2/3 bottle coravined before holiday. Best at the first glass, full of flavour and smooth chocolate and dark red plum. Paired with turkey and foie gras. The emerging secondary notes of red clay and burnt hay matched well with the bird, if the wine closed up some. 94/100 drink now with no air or better hold. |

12/15/2022 - Lord of the Bottles Likes this wine: 96 pointsIt’s Pomerol time. 2015 La Violette, right next to Le Pin! Coravined two glasses. This was surprisingly open with milk chocolate, dark red fruit, strong fennel, and a looong finish of chocolate covered cherries and red dirt. Constantly evolving in the glass, a powerful red dirt and clay tone emerged. More fennel. Let’s see how the rest of the bottle goes but this is at least 96/100 with upside in time. The rusted nail and red dirt nose brings me to Burgundy (Vosne Romanee) not Bordeaux. Stunning. |
