2000 Kanonkop Cabernet SauvignonSimonsberg-Stellenbosch more |

You could almost mistake the 2000 cabernet for a North American Cabernet. It has a nicely floral and fruit forward nose, lots of black currant and vanilla. On the palate it's medium bodied but very classy and smooth, you could almost mistake it for a high quality Pinot Noir. Nice currant and berry flavors with a dash of clay/mineral and cedar/vanilla....good finish with adequate tannin structure. Incredible effort for a South African cabernet. |

Second best of the evening, due to the lack of expression on the nose. But without a doubt, absolute top quality. |

Quite big tannins appear on the finish providing a soft chewiness. Very deep and quite concentrated. Possibly Shiraz/Cabernet? Some Cabernet Franc in it? Very Good Indeed. |

I do not have much experience w/ pinotage... this was just VERY subdued (nose and palate). I might grab another and give it a year or two. |
