Excellent and intense village cru from Kühn, amazing sneak preview for the grand crus to come.
The nose comes with some pears and lime, mixed with some herbs and salty stone. The palate shows a medium bodied wine with lip smacking acidity and quite a long finish. I guess it can easily age for another decade, but its very good right know.

What a wine to celebrate the return to our beloved “Vaas” close to Munich. The bouquet just jumps in your senses with stone fruit, lime, mint and other herbs. Besides those fruit and herbal aromas one has a tremendous depth with salty minerality. Different than the schist aromas from the Mosel but very intriguing.
The intensity on the palate almost tops the bouquet. This is built for the long haul but extremely enjoyable right now. One of the greatest young Rieslings I had.

A very nice sekt, albeit not quite what I expected. I was surprised to encounter so much tertiary complexity on both the nose and palate. It was admittedly still delicious, just not what I was expecting...at all. That being said, the dosage is beautifully balanced; I actually would have guessed it was an extra brut rather than a brut.

The aromas initially struck me as far more delicate than some of the producer's other entry to mid-level wines but the palate certainly packs a satisfying and sapid punch. Let it breathe a bit and you will be grateful that you did.

Intense, complex wine - really crystalline on the nose, but richer in the palate, with a honeyed, preserved lemon finish. On a par with premier cry white Burgundy. Lots of acidity and feels like it could open up further with time, but delicious now.

Consistent with previous note , still young and crisp. This evolved positively in the open bottle over three days so I assume it will do the same in the cellar over many years to come.

Not much changed since last time and that was 3 years ago. Due to the screwcap? Full of tension and acidity almost at the edge. Needs air but then mellows down and becomes pleasant especially with food (like our smoked trout). Still very crisp. After 3 days it got smoother, so this seems to be really a keeper. Should get better over the next 5-10 years.

These days, almost every German white wine (even the top quality ones) has a screw cap. And there is a good reason for that: no cork taint anymore.

Unfortunately, this bottle had an old-fashioned cork.

Pale golden colour, smells of quince and a little bit ethereal (remembers me of eucalyptus), after the second glass there is also a little bit of wet cardboard in the nose, first glass doesn’t have any acidity at all, after the second glass there is a little bit, in the mouth quince and a little bit of wet cardboard, medium body, dry, but not in a tart way, in the aftertaste wet cardboard, quince and acidity, good length (15 sec). Clearly a corked bottle.

Unfortunately, this bottle had an old-fashioned cork. As much as I liked opening a bottle of Riesling like in the old days (the “plop” sound that heralds a good time), smelling the cork brought back not so good memories.
Pale golden colour, smells of mirabelle and apricot, medium body, dry, but not in a tart way, after the second glass there is a nice acidity, in the mouth quince and grapefruit with a little bit of wet cardboard in the background, in the aftertaste grapefruit and a little bit of wet cardboard, good length (15 sec), really a pity it was slightly corked; it was still drinkable though. But it marred what would have been an excellent Riesling.
I hope the second bottle I have is not flawed.

I have had a number of PJK's mid to high level riesling and they have all been fabulous. While I expected that their entry-level would be good as well, I was blown away by just how fantastic it is. YUM! Pure, refined and all around delicious. Will definitely buy this again (and again).

Ripe yellow fruit: mango, peach, pineapple, some citrus (grapefruit), the fruit covers a bit the saltiness of the wine. Very dense with a lot of dry extract. I drink it for the first time, no experience with it, but I suppose that it will gain on complexity with time: 92+ upward potential.

Lighter-medium golden color, high color intensity for such a young wine. Beautifully layered, deep and complex, this is showing ripe yellow fruit, some herbal notes, white flowers, mint, also some deep minerality, some spices and just overall a kaleidoscopic wealth of flavors and aromas. It‘s medium-full bodied, with an almost creamy texture of high viscosity from extract, not alcohol as this is only clocking in at 12.5. It has high acidity adding superb freshness and tension. There is also a touch of RS buffering the acidity and adding to the creamy mouthfeel. Long finish. A superb „dry“ Riesling from this great producer.

Medium lemon
Honeysuckle, pear drop, lemon peel nose.
Off dry, very intense palate with citrus and hint of stone fruits. High acidity. Really well balanced, long finish.
10% alcohol.
Excellent wine which should evolve well over the next 5+ years.

Tropical nose. Honeyed with a light texture. The short finish begs for more generosity with this bone dry style. Not much fun but mineral wine lovers will enjoy this. I prefer a dash of residual sugar to plump up my Rieslings. This is a stick insect.... Drink my last bottle in 5 years??

Pale gold, touch of spritz on pouring.
Sherbet, lemon and talc on the nose – generously floral (a little earth too), and very pretty and inviting.

Gorgeous attack: full and voluminous, round and charming – incredibly juicy and carries the sweetness so well! Flavours of candied lemons, peach, tea with a very clean and uplifting finish. This has great depth, plenty of depth, good weight and vinosity, and a pleasing grip.

Bright gold
Piquant and very bright on the nose that leads with lemon citrus, a touch of stem and smoke giving bass. This feels more restrained, delicate and taut, very clean and crisp. Time brings riper fruit quality, notes of talc and spring flowers, a greater sense of breadth and depth with some softer fruit and notes of tea.

Quite full in the mouth, and rounder than the nose might suggest, weightier too. Intense, with a lovely mix of softer fruits and sappy, salty, stony mineral elements.
This feels youthful, wonderfully balanced and elegant, rather Chablis-like now, and should cellar well.

It was clearly excellent, but feels (more than any of the others we tasted in the line-up) that it needs to be stowed away, when i'm sure I would upscore it.

A gorgeous nose here: a hint of smoke, lovely floral white fruits, pineapple and more exotic yellow fruits besides. This quickly opens further, with notes of orange, soft red fruits, syrupy white flowers, honey and a touch of vanilla. Expressive, pure, great definition and a sense of creaminess too.

The palate is similarly exciting and direct with bags of fleshy yellow and orange fruits, honeyed touches and hints of toast and oak. This is lightly grippy and playful, there are salty pockets, lovely tangy acidity, notes of spicy flowers, and a silky-almost-creamy quality. Wow! So much to love now, but clearly worthy of cellaring, and should appeal to Burgundy lovers too.

Northernmost part of Oestrich; western slope; lots of iron oxide and quartz (redder soils).
18m elevage, 100% fuder – a 3yr and an 8yr old barrel.

Light/mid gold
Broader still and fuller on the nose, showing some power, although a little more compact than the Rheinschiefer. Rich notes of lime citrus (and oil), a hint of developed Riesling too, honey, but this has much more to show in time.

The palate displays a remarkable intensity, it feels very stony and salty in parts, tantalising and stimulating with great clarity and excellent length. Again, this is perfectly balanced, it will provide good drinking but well worth stowing a few bottles away for a good 5 years or so.

Peter Bernhard said there is some fruit in here that could go in to their GG wines; vines are 15-30 years old, and the level of fuder-matured wine is up to 50%.

Pale gold
A touch broader than the Jacobus, deeper and a touch more rounded on the nose – still very pure, clear and cool. There is a sense of ripeness that makes for a softer, warmer fruit impression, hints of honey, nut and toast. A super nose, perfectly delicate yet complex with a key note of Mirabelle plum.

The palate is vivid with ripe plum – flesh and skin, the slate soils give a superb mineral expression and some grip, and stimulating acidity carries through to a long and fine finish that shows a touch of creamed nut. Perfectly balanced, sophisticated, stylish.

2/3 of the fruit comes from younger vines in the Hendelberg

Super purity and lift right of the bat, and pretty and delicate as Riesling should be. Fragrant peach and lime make for an easy and inviting nose that develops notes of tea and stone fruit kernels as well as a spicy mineral feel.
The palate is crisp and very clear with lovely intensity and mineral interplay, it feels very fine and pure with leaner flavours of lemon citrus, talc and violet.

12 months maturation (30% in fuder on gross lees)

Jacobus is always a great value, but this is especially good, and the quality of 2019 really shows through.

Deep golden. This is a real powerhouse with lots of intense yellow fruit, mostly peaches and a bit onedimensional with spicy and mineral notes. Not really elegant but great anyway. On the palate with intense but balanced acidity and tannins not to detect for my palate. With time, some hours, from the opened bottle it gets more play. 97 points from the WA. With out a doubt this is going to age for decades, but is it going better? 5/13/18/10. -2040
