Med+, developed aromas of wild black & red cherries, dried black plum, dried herbs, forest floor, cigar box & sweet baking spices from 2 yrs in large oak casks. Dry, w/ generous fruit, med+ to high acidity, med+, polished tannins & med+ alcohol. Full body, w/ med+ flavor intensity & a long finish. A big but elegant wine, w/ great balance. Approaching its peak but w/ several years left. WS 93. |

There is considerable 'funk' which does blow off to a degree over time, I was under the impression that the wine would blossom during our meal and it did improve a little bit with a deepening intensity, but it plateaued after about an hour with the cork out. Perhaps this bottle was a little bit tainted - too much funk muting the fruit. Once we got past it's simplicity we were able to enjoy it for what it was - a light and refreshing style of Brunello with some vibrancy and a simple array of typical Sangiovese characteristics. Nothing extraordinary and I expected more. |
