1/18/2024 - wicozani Likes this wine: 90 pointsPart of an auction purchase for us to experience an well-aged Brunello di Montalcino. A medium ruby in the glass extending out to highly thinned and slightly bricked edges. The nose beckons with soft red berries and plum, along with an aged leather-bound book, mahogany, violet and overripe orange rind. Still decently present on the palate, with still very good acidity, a touch of spice joins the aromatic notes. A nice pairing with a Best Italian Meat Sauce pasta. One bottle left and will be glad to consume in upcoming months. |

8/7/2023 - mcromain1021 Likes this wine: 92 pointsAn off year in Montalcino, but bought this on a flyer and glad that I did. Scopetone has always been a solid producer for me. My advice, if you like a producer, buy their wines in any vintage and more times than not, you'll be happy. This had an awesome nose with hints of strawberry and apple with. secondary meat and mushroom notes. Med bodied with an ultra smooth finish. Drink now. Great effort! |

9/10/2023 - Macdog Likes this wine: NRI really enjoyed this. Good QPR. Drinking now - no rush but I’m not sure this is a long haul wine and frnakly might as well be enjoyed. Best after a short decant. |

8/22/2023 - Macdog Likes this wine: NRReally good after 2-3 hours in decanter and at cellar temp. I was p n p’ing these but sadly now I’ll have to let them breathe or hold the remaining bottles. Stood up well after a 2014 grattamacco with bbq’d butterflied leg of lamb. |

5/20/2023 - Brad T Likes this wine: 91 pointsThe first whiff has some “old juice nose” but after that blows off, it settles into a more typical waft of bottle aged Brunello, with that telltake caramel, old leather and dusty book aroma that often gets chalked up to “rose petals.” In the mouth there’s sour red cherry, strawberry and mos def fresh cut ripe blood orange. The acid is still present and nicely compliments the bracing sanguine finish, which is nice but one-dimensional, sue to the persistence of angular tannins which I’d have expected to be more elegant at 11 years of age. If I has to guess, maybe the oak treatment was a little too intense in proportion to the fruit and that has led to a heavier overall feel. This is a very good Brunello to me but it may be off putting to those who love the gentle tannins that fade into burnished leather that one finds in older Brunellos of good pedigree. I’m on the fence and to whether this will improve over time, as extended air only led in the direction of stewed fruit. |

4/29/2023 - yossarian.livez wrote: 88 pointsA nice wine if lacking a bit of finesse. Fruit is broad on the palate, certainly a bit beefier but up so very undeniably more serious Sangiovese. Underbrush, firm red fruit, a bit drying tannin. Not overly modern, but a bit riper than maybe I would like. A bit of underlaying minerality behind a fruit finish. It’s a bit boxy, all shoulders and perhaps a bit too dower. Approachable now but better in 3-5yr. |

3/5/2023 - VincentMorey Likes this wine: NRA Costco offering, so it was very good value for the performance. However I am not sure if it is in a dull phase or not right now. Decanted for 1.5 hours, and with time the fruit slowly faded. Very approacheable but not terribly complex. Will keep the few bottles remaining and try them again over the next 2 to 3 years. Surprised it did not pair as well with pasta, pork ragu, and shaved pecorino and not sure if it has enough stuffing to make a good pairing with braised beef or roast lamb at this stage. |

2/18/2023 - CheviotCellar Likes this wine: 89 pointsA lighter, feminine Brunello. Color is sunny and transparent. Nose has tootsie roll, cherries, some herbal tones. Palate is old world pinot like, with cherry and caramel, drying oak, berry stem. Pretty solid effort. Would like minerality and textured tannins to make this more interesting. One more bottle left and will wait several years to see how it evolves. |

11/20/2022 - jkscully Likes this wine: NRTastes like Montalcino. Dusty, chocolate covered cherries. Dark and brooding with vegetal/ratatouille flavors. Leather. Really great for the price. One step better than the Castagnoli Chianti from the same vintage and a good match with grilled chicken with a stewed tomato sauce and grilled squash. This is really enjoyable for the price. |
