This has aged remarkably well – very fine tertiary cedar and truffle notes with delicate black fruit and still a hint of floral freshness. Some sweet roundness to balance the slightly drying tannins. Tastes much younger than 20 years. |

1/19/2024 - ronnieroots Likes this wine: 93 pointsFine red berries with subtle forest floor, rose, rosehip and tarry notes and just the hint of aged leather. Ultrafine tannin, highly persistent and elegant. Excellent now but will surely hold. |

10/30/2023 - ronnieroots wrote: 87 pointsA wine with a questionable pedigree and I've also had my share of VA-riddled bottles. This, however, was clean and lovely to drink. Not very complex, with many light strawberries, cream and dried herbs, with some dry notes of leather. Definitely not showing the concentration or greatness expected from the vintage, but drinking surprisingly well and enjoyed very much. |

5/16/2023 - ronnieroots wrote: 88 pointsVery nice mid-weight port that is peak drinking now. Fine combination of aged tobacco and spice with rounded red+back cherry and plum. Good freshness. Not terribly long or complex, but very good for the price. |

3/30/2023 - ronnieroots wrote: 95 pointsSlightly leaking bottle, but cork and fill level in good condition. Bright pale colour with very fine red berry aroma core next to dried herbs, leather, tobacco, milk chocolate and nougat. Very fine and elegant palate but with lots of structure on the long finish. Absolutely top drinking now, but will hold for a long time. Great wine. |

6/23/2021 - ronnieroots Likes this wine: NRBeautifully mature. Tertiary notes of forest floor, smoke, leather, together with hints of wild strawberries and more evolved fruit. Tannins are completely integrated, smooth mouthfeel with fresh acidity lingering on the pleasant finish. Lovely bottle of wine, great quality. |

12/26/2020 - ronnieroots wrote: NRReally beautiful, rich and savoury. Almost dessert-like sweetness but the savoury character and good acidity keep it from being a dessert wine. Spice, rose petal and tropical. long, rich finish. Great with honey-glazed ham. |

12/25/2019 - ronnieroots wrote: NRFully tertiary in the most delicate of ways, with evolved fruit, forest floor and a fine acidic thread keeping it all together. Probably better a few years ago with some more primary fruit, but still very enjoyable and feeling more youthful with some more time in the glass. A lovely surprise! |

8/15/2019 - ronnieroots wrote: 92 pointsInitially quite soft and easy-going with evolved red cherry, a clear spice note and some leather. Grows over time and decidedly more tannic and structured on day two. Should be able to grow old bones after all. |

5/4/2019 - ronnieroots Likes this wine: 95 pointsAbsolutely singing at the moment. Beautiful ruby colour belies its age. Lovely mineral graphite and chalky notes, together with sweet cherry, dark licorice core and earthy, savoury notes developing with time in the decanter. Growing more tertiary after a couple of hours in the decanter, with more leather and undergrowth notes. Soft, completely integrated tannins, medium acidity. I have no doubt this will hold, but also perfect to drink now. |

6/24/2018 - ronnieroots wrote: 93 pointsSuch a beauty this. Wonderfully complex and rich with marzipan, toasted almonds, hazelnuts, raisin, dried citrus and a lovely spice note. Medium-bodied and medium-sweet. The sweetness enhances the flavours, never overpowers them. Long finish with plenty of oriental spice. |

5/14/2018 - ronnieroots wrote: 89 pointsMost evolved bottle of the lot. Spicy nose with white pepper, white truffle, almonds and marzipan next to fresh, ripe citrus (lemon, mandarin). Same characteristics on the palate, although it falls away a bit and ends slightly hollow. Not the best bottle, but still good. |

12/15/2017 - ronnieroots wrote: 92 pointsDidn't have high hopes, as this came from a doubtful source, but it turned out to be a lovely bottle. Quite rich, obvious oak, but beautiful spicy note and good mineral backbone to keep it all in check. Much liked. |

11/25/2017 - ronnieroots wrote: 86 pointsEnjoyable, but not quite sure 12 years ageing has any added value for this (or any) Marlborough SB. Hint of asparagus, mainly dried fruit (lemon, grapefruit), hay and a spicy note. Would be better if some of the fruity exuberance of youth were still apparent. |

11/12/2017 - ronnieroots wrote: 91 pointsRather straightforward berry fruit on day one, but considerably better the next day: dark fruit core, earthy, spicy and plenty of dried thyme character. Fresh mineral element to balance it all out. Still has a way to go. |

11/5/2017 - ronnieroots Likes this wine: 96 pointsA great bottle that really shone after 5-6 hours in the decanter. Dark ruby colour, with rich aromas of dark cherry, blackberry, and lovely floral notes (rose and violet). Great depth on the palate with all of the above aromas coming back plus a spicy flavours of star anise, bay leaf and black pepper. The tannins are finally beginning to soften, but it still feels as if it's only just starting to open up. Still so much more to come. |
