2020 Domaine Robert Groffier Bourgogne Passetoutgrains

Again a very serious wine. So well made. However, the vintage is not very beneficial for this. I much more preferred the cooler vintage versions of this (such as the brilliant 2017). Darker fruits than usual, more rustic and less transparent, less "wild" (less stems?) and less acidity. Still - a lovely easy drinking and enjoyable bottle, but missing some of the fine tuning and clean and wild feeling I usually get in this. Perhaps some further cellar time will make this more interesting?

First bottle from a case of 2020. Short note - just p & p'd and drunk. The 2019 vintage of this wine was really stunning, a great qpr for a Vosne 1:er Cru. Expectations rather high. The 2020 version is perhaps not as good as the 19 (at least not at this point). The vintage shows, this is a far less delicate and finely tuned wine. Less floral and transparent, more alcohol and oomph. Denser fruit, and heavier. More oak present and warmer fruit makes for a less sexy wine at this young age. Still very good, but I preferred the 2019. I will try and give the next bottle some extended cellar time before opening. Points for tonight's "test".

Another perfect bottle of my favorite Cabernet Franc. No formal notes. Dusty and green and spicy, with such fine fruit! A quite big wine in this lovely vintage - very enjoyable. Excellent!

Maturity starting to show. Nose with ripe lemons, butter, flowers, smoky minerals. Palate not really impressing, missing the GC fruit and depth. Ripe sweet citrus, honey, vanilla. Palate a bit short and thin for a Les Clos and rather low in acidity. Vintage related is my guess.

Found a couple of forgotten 2008 half bottles in a case. Lucky day! Nose with red apples, toffee, some nuttiness, a hint of coffee. Spicy with creamy read apples, butter notes, toffee. Very good balance and length.

Again - delivering at top level. Similar notes as to the bottle I enjoyed a month ago. A charmer - still a serious wine.

Another exceptional bottle. Notes more or less identical to last bottle consumed 6 months ago. So fine, fruit and acidity in a perfect symbiose. So complex and layered - still just so quaffable. Riesling don't come better than this.

Cassis and currant, blue fruit, hints of cedar and cigar tobacco with hint of Bdx. barnyard. Palate with dark fine ripe fruit, black currant and blueberries, good tannins and structure with fine balance. This is in its early stage of drinking and will definitely improve from here on. A really good old-school and very fine balanced Bordeaux. (91 - 92+)

What a treat to open this as the final Bourgogne of the year. Brought for NYE dinner - no formal notes. Nose with a full store of spices, a complete flower garden and tons of minerals! Just perfect - so deep and alluring, complex beyond words - completely seductive. Palate is dense, filled with the most beautiful mix of perfect pinot Noir - cherries, sweeter strawberries, spices, earth, minerals. Rich and complex, silky - but so much more to be had if if given another 5 years I would say - still acting like a very young wine. Unreleased and held back at this time, but nevertheless completely and purely enjoyable and a gift from Bacchus. Among the best bottles of Bonnes Mares I have ever had. This might turn in to a 100 points wine with some further aging. (97 - 99+)

NYE - no notes. Great bottle of DP! Starting to come around and showing how great DP can be from a really epic vintage. Had with a king crab and lobster starter and this really matched. A real treat and a perfect day to pop a great top bottle on. Merry New year!

Another very very fine bottle of this superb wine. Tremendous qpr. - priced as a generic Bourgogne, but without a doubt a wine worthy it's 1:er Cru label. Starting to put on a bit more weight, bur still a very light wine for a Vosne 1:er. I will keep enjoying these bottles, and re stock if I find more.

Christmas eve - no formal notes. Initially very closed, not giving away much (despite 1 hour+ in the decanter). Earthy, dark berries with some spices. Intense palate, rustic and somewhat "wild", sweet cherries, earth a touch of smoked meat. Very fine length and finish. Allot of fruit waiting underneath - a bit tightly knit tonight. I'd suggest to give this a bit more time, as there is plenty of stuff and I am sure a big reward for the patient. A very fine wine in the making here. (94 - 96?)

And once again - I just can't stay away. I was hoping to get to taste this my new favorite house wine with some age, but with this burn rate I seriously doubt I will be able to even catch a bottle with bottom sediment? Outstanding performance again tonight.

Second and final bottle in my cellar. Finished of a great wine evening and dinner with this baby. A great wine for a berry dessert, very fresh and with a perfect balance. I shall buy myself some more bottles of this, since I really liked it.

Excellent Barolo - as always from Mascarellos Monprivato. Also a rather feminine "Grand Cru Barolo". Nose with high floral notes, airy roses, strawberries, wild strawberries and dusty minerals. Elegant palate, silky, "velvet glove", with loads of ripe strawberries, creamy raspberries, cherries, chalky and fat minerals. Overall very fine balance with high acidity and sweet ripe fruit. Burgundian in style, fine limbed, especially for a Barolo and from 2010 but a truly lovely young wine. This will be interesting to follow. Lovely tonight and will be even lovelier, at this point we are drinking (great) potential. 94 - 96+

No real notes. Been very curios on this producer, since he is apparently related to the late KaJo and running parts of his vineyards. I ended up all but disappointed. This showed the typical Ürzig Würzgarten profile, with the lovely tropical notes, the warm slate, honey and flowers and the petroleum notes. Palate was very fine with excellent balance between the sweetness and the acidity. Good weight with tropical fruits, mango, sweet lemons, papaya, ripe apples, lime, tutti - frutti. Impressive work behind this wine. A pleasant acquaintance Dr. Hermann, looking forward to get to know you better.

2006 Bonnaire Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Millésimé

|
This has matured since my last bottle 3 years ago - getting there! To me this is one of the best 2006 Champagnes I have had. Bonnaire knows his Chardonnay. Starting to switch color, much deeper, nose with some nuts, almonds, smoke, sherry, fudge, ripe lemons. Palate is deep and rich with fine ripe lemons, grilled lemons, slightly bruised apples, honey, toffee ,hints of fine sherry, cream and fine minerals. Excellent acidity, excellent depth and excellent length and over all finish. In short - an Excellent bottle of Champagne.
