Very nice finish on this whereas in previous vintages came up short, a little biiter and a little vegital. Great food Syrah and Great value. 90-91 |

10/27/2011 - beachnic wrote: 92 pointsBig, rich, smokey wood, licorice, tobacco on the nose. good quality, Deep dark fruit, Reminds me of the 2001 Berlinger Private reserve (juicy and concentrated with lots of oak offsetting it). Well balanced with good tannins for aging. Can drink now but I'm going to lay this down for a little bit should get much better. Good purchase |

10/27/2011 - beachnic wrote: 94 pointsOne of the best CDP's I've had in a long time. 1st couple of bottles were great but the other few I've tried since then have been a little closed down. Modern style but has a classic nose. Some bottles are drinking great now but overall still seems pretty young. Sitting on the rest for a little while. 94-94pts |

10/27/2011 - beachnic wrote: 93 pointsOne of may favorite 2005's to start drinking now. Great nose of smokey herbs and some meat, with flowers thrown in. The nose keeps evolving and building getting better and more complex with airtime. Good depth of fruit, juicy. Has what seems like an abbreviated finish initially which adds the the easy drinking impression. I think it would be easy to dismiss this as a bit of a sexy quaffer but it builds and builds on all fronts with good airtime. I seem to always go back to this 2005 for pleasurable drinking right now.. Guaranteed People pleaser. |

10/26/2011 - beachnic wrote: 95 pointsGorgeous nose of ripe red fruits, licorice, tobbaco and wet gravel. Lots of minerality. I'm getting savory herbs and a little eucalyptus as well. Could sniff this all day. Very balanced, ripe, rich, fruit (not heavy at all), chewey/sweet tannins and decent acidity. Great, silky mouthfeel. After some good air time this turns more savory and the minerals are leaping from the glass.. Really hits the sexy sweetsspot. This is a WOW wine for me and much better showing than the 2003 Cos d'Estournal I had the other day. Does have a slight bitterness to it at the end. Tannins are definately there and come out behind the initial silkiness. Great now if don't mind a little bitterness and the wood/slightly mouth drying tannins on the back end ( fruit is plenty deep and rich enough to hold up to these ). Has plenty more room to evolve and get even sexier. Drinks great now but would love to revisit in 3-5yrs. Bought half a case more. As far as length goes--I can still feel the texture and taste/smell the Graves character when I woke up the next morning. |

10/25/2011 - beachnic wrote: 90 pointsAt over $200.. based on this bottle, it's highly overrated. Ok nose but nothing great. Wood, Ok fruit, smooth not that interesting. No WOW factor at all. Based on other good reviews, I suspect some bottle shock since I drank it within a week of it being shipped. Lack of fruit also tells me it might be bottle shock as well. Oh well, too bad. 90 pts |

7/8/2011 - beachnic wrote: 92 pointsPinot lovers CDP. Light in the mouth but noticeable glycerol. Big drippy legs. (After 60 min decant) Stewed raspberries, cherries, decent amount of minerals, and dried herbs, slight vanilla. In the mouth fairly sweet, silky, slightly cooked red berries, good acidity slightly dry at the end. Fairly long finish. What stands out is the balance between sweet fruit and acidity and the silky mouthfeel. Not a blockbuster wine but captivating. Drank the 2006 the other day and it is much much better. |

6/15/2011 - beachnic wrote: 94 pointsHad several of the past Vintages of this wine and this is definitely the best i've tried. Big and concentrated (14.8% abv). Beautiful nose of pencil shavings, minerals, smoke, camphor and blue and black fruits. In the mouth it's very silky/velvety and balanced for a relatively young wine. Good acidity and mouth drying tannins are buried under the dense fruit. Feels almost light on it's feet for such a big cab. Incredibly well made. |

9/3/2010 - beachnic wrote: 91 pointsExcellent nose. Tannins initially melted into the fruit then resurface a little dusty and dry at the end. Fruit is a little rich and Juicy on the end, The nose reminds me a bit of some To-Kalon bottles I've had. Pretty much what I was looking for when I bought the bottle. 91+Pts. |

7/15/2010 - beachnic wrote: 96 points30 minutes out of the decanter. On the nose, got a blast of bright fresh blueberries then currents and blackberries.. The fruit on the nose is amazing like walking down the aisle of a fruit market. Almost reminds me of a malbec Fine tannins, just the right amount of oak and pencil shavings. Not as muscular as some of the other Beckstoffer's I've had. Floral and extremely well integrated for such a young cab. One of the best young cali cabs I've ever had. Will get much more complex down the road. Big upside. |

1/3/2010 - beachnic wrote: 92 pointsGreat smoked meat nose on this Syrah. A lot of deep dark fruit to this. Very rich with decent acidity to balance it out. My favorite recent Northern Rhone red was the 2006 Rene Rostaing Cote Roitie but at $70 a pop was not conducive to drinking as regular as I would have liked. At $34 a bottle (for a case) this is as good a bargain as I've seen out there. To me As good as the Rostaing at half the price. This reminds me of a top vintage of the Stolpman Angeli, Ripe but extremely balanced. Bought a case. |

Misssing the rustic barnyard CDP characteristics or at least they are buried at this point. Getting a little blast of alcohol on the backend and some bitterness. Needs a couple of years to shine more but I'm still enjoying it very much. 90+Pts |

12/4/2009 - beachnic wrote: 90 pointsI really enjoyed this CDP. Very nice rustic barnyard going on with some petrol at the end. This is pretty classic. Frankly I prefer this to several Ch. Beaucastels (and I've been a fan from way back) I've had because it has a better barnyard or brett characteristic to it. This has good balance and sweetness of fruit.. Decent finish. A much welcome relief to CDP's that lack what is best about them. 90-91Pts |

10/23/2009 - beachnic wrote: 91 pointsRight out of the bottle good sweet mature fruit. The fragrant nose smells of stewed fruit, sandalwood, minerals and a little bit of herbs. Dusty, dry tannins (like a Rutherford wine) but with a nice sweetness to the fruit. Overall good balance and character that results in a classic aged Bordeaux experience. I will buy many more. 90-91Pts |

10/10/2009 - beachnic wrote: 93 pointsI think the previous poster did a great job describing this wine. From my perspective There are predominant barnyard aromas and smoked meats followed by an aroma I can only describe as glade air freshener. Very good minerality. The fruit is sweet and very rich but glides into balance. This is a sipping wine to be enjoyed by a nice fire and on it's own. Intense and exaggerated between the barnyard and sweet fruit but works very well because of the balance in the midpalate. This has turned a corner and gotten better than it was 6 months ago. I'd also like to revisit in 5yrs. 93-94Pts |
