Clearly needed plenty of time with air, and once it got where it was going, it was outstanding. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

12/2/2023 - novie1234 wrote: 93 pointsNeeded about 2 hours of air to even be approachable. After the oak integrates, and it takes on a good deal body. Lemon, citrus is dominant. Here acidity is medium to high and does offer a brightness throughout. Ideally, I’d like to hang onto the rest of my stash for another five or ten years and see what this brings. |

10/3/2023 - novie1234 wrote: 95 pointsHonestly, in a great window but needs air. Tannins are soft at open, a bit of bricking, but it’s the fruit that is restricting. It needs a full 3 hrs in my opinion to come alive and put on body. Once there it is wonderful and is a joy. Finish is exceptional. |

4/1/2023 - novie1234 wrote: 90 pointsNot sure here what to make of this. Could it be an off bottle? Upon open, nose was astringent but developed, albeit different than what was expected. Palate was bright red, super concentrated tart cherry almost overshadowing anything else layered beneath. I tried after several hrs in the decanter and it remained an acid bomb, bright and unyielding. Tannins were rough and heat was forward. I was obsessed with seeing this through - so I let it decant for three full days. Sampling throughout. It didn’t come around until day 3 - finally relaxing a bit and ***integrating*** a bit more. In the end, nothing to write home about, the minerality came alive, but there was little in the way of complexity, or any type of connection to its close relative. |

3/18/2023 - novie1234 wrote: 93 pointsAt first open, the nose was incredible. Probably the best of the night- right at open. Tells the story right from the get go - this one may be a bit on the back side of the mountain. It was a great wine - one with all the pedigree you would expect but certainly could have been opened a few years earlier. No residual tannins and not much acid to keep this going, so imo please drink up. What there was, though, was a great deal of mature blue and black fruit, with a consistent layer of methol and green, though it was in the background. It was a thoroughly enjoyable wine - and probably was a beast a decade ago. |

2/14/2023 - novie1234 wrote: 90 pointsDefinitely not a great vintage or LB. But did have a good time with this wine. It could only hold up for a few hours before it decided to prune up and turn, but at the open, and with a touch of air, it was a nice refined claret that was enjoyable by all. Drink up and drink quickly :) |

1/21/2023 - novie1234 wrote: 90 pointsFully mature and probably on the backside of the drinking window. Gave a few minutes of air to blow off initial funk and it showed ok. Not great, probably not good - just ok. Nose was resolved I to the deep earth and layers of mineral and tabacco. I was more impressed by the nose than on the palate. It felt weak at times. Acid was there. It certainly was fresh but the core of resolved silky tannin and fruit was underwhelming. |
