Tasted blind. From first stiff blind you could nail it to the top 5 best Barossa Shiraz it was, with all the classic pronounced aroma that screaming out of glass. You name the flavours you can think of for a top Barossa Shiraz. So deep with a never ending finish. But didn’t realise it was dry grown for its impeccable balance! Tasted like 15% only.

Slightly cloudy, pale gold. Nose of sea breeze, apricot, lemonade, quince, lees, underlying oak and hints of grilled nuts. Kinda light on palate at 12.0% but good intensity. Citrus peels, saline, flint, sweet spices, savoury and leesy. A rare and terrific Chardonnay from Japan.

90% Cabernet Franc and 10% Merlot.

Expressive notes of violet, ripe blackberry, eucalyptus, plums, graphite, crushed stones, mocha, tobacco, warm earth, toasty oak. Lifting on palate with palate cleansing acidity and core bright red fruits. Layered, perfumed, nothing too much.

2015 Paradiso Brunello Riserva

Really gorgeous aroma. Wild flowers, cranberries, sour cherries, prune, freshly cut herbs and noticeable undergrowth, nutmeg and sweet spices, tar and smoke, earth and leather.

Ethereal and lifting at 13.5%. Complex flavours developing from the focus mid palate. Light weight but concentrated long finish.

So much depth here. I already love the way it is at present.

At a good place now with drying tannins. Medium weight, really good acidity that brings out the riper fruits. Leather and tobacco.

Still quite dominant oak and tannins upon opening. But the flavour profile is shining already. Bright red and black berries intermixing with some dried fruits. Lingering graphite and tobacco note. Fresh and focus.

Base 2017, Disgorged 3/2021.

Very fine mousse. Displays early stage of maturing complexities. Freshly baked apple crumble, apricot, brioche, apricot, chalky minerals, honey, roasted nuts, sweet nutmeg and ginger spices. Broad on entry but finishing fine.

Slightly dusty, saline, leesy and nutty at first. It opened up with aromatic floral notes of lily and daffodils. Juicy expressive mandarin, orange peels, apricot. Noticeable honey, sweet spices and bit of caramel. Bone dry with cleansing sharp acidity that adds liveliness. Very energetic and concentrated. Rare and delicious. 13.5%

Still having very fine bubbles. Pale amber color. Distinctively and beautifully oxidative in style. Caramel, walnuts, almond, beeswax, apricots, orange peels, chalk, loads of lees and biscuits that is all underpinned by electrical acidity, savoury salinity. While being expansive on palate with rippling flavours, the long acid line provides a solid backbone for the precise and long finish.

Expressice white flowers, citrus fruits, lime, starfruits, apricot and ripe peach. Some honey, but of nuts. Chalky minerals. Savoury salinity too that adds depth. Round with 5g residual sugar despite its racy acidty. Good tension and strength with good amount of dry extracts. Finishing with aromatic lemongrass. This will age gracefully. 12.5%abv.

Bright pale gold. Inviting fresh Jasmine flower, ripe pear, white peach, some apricot, honey syrup, leesy, some saline and wet stone mineral notes as well. Weighty and flavourful at 14.0% abv. Palate enveloping flavours with more complexity of sweet spices, roasted notes, orange zest. Quite long as expected.

Delicate white flowers, assorted stone fruits such as Yuzu, quince, fresh peach, chalky minerals, a bit of honey and lightly roastes nuts undertone. Very slightly residual sugar back by piercing acidity. Light to medium body with noticeable lip-glossing texture. Finishing precise with lingering lime and Yuzu zest bitter sweet sourness. Delightful. 13% abv.

Very Mesnil. Lovely chalkiness, white flowers, zesty lemon juice, green apple, orange peel, prominent leesy ans creamy characters, some freshly roasted nuts, honey water, wet stone. Energetic. Best warming up with air.

2009 Paradiso Brunello di Montalcino

Mature look. Initially fully packed with dried flowers, preserved fruits, dried fig, toffee. With some air it started to reveal the tarry, smoky core with leather, coffee bean note.

Mid weight and fresh on palate with deep savoury and earthy characters. Good grip. Fully mature at its peak now.

Well integrated. Classic lovely honey, toast, limestone and tertiary petrol notes that go so well with the juicy lemonade, guava, honey syrup and nutty flavours. Appetizing and light. 11.5%abv.

From century-old vines. Elegant old world style. Some flower petals, lots of wild herbs, just ripe blackberries, black olives, smoke, tar, wet stone, graphite, underlying sweet spices and toastiness from oak, bit of game and forest floor. Lush, layered, focus and long. This is really well made and starting to show its full potential now. 14%abv.

Pale, very slightly cloudy. Opened up fairly quickly in glass. Seductive flower bouquet, bright raspberries, fresh strawberries, sour cherry, tree mosses, wet stone, white pepper, some smoke and underlying oak. Light, airy, juicy palate with some farmyard and savoury notes adding dimensions. Ultra smooth and elegant. Well played and at just 12.0%abv this is so delightful.

Well made. Intense purple flowers, sandalwood, juicy blackcurrant, graphite, toasty sweet oak, creamy, savoury earth. Medium bodied, good focus, distinct mocha, graphite and dusty and some tarry character. Finishing short though.

Weightless, natural style. Ripe strawberries, blackcherry. Ash, good depth of minerals, dried flowers, raw savoury and gamey notes. Refined. 15% abv feels like 13.5% only.

Performing so well now. Really complex. Stoney minerals, ripe orchard fruits, red apple, brioche, hazelnuts, creme brulee, just right amount of autolytic notes. Vibrant, tightly wounded and appetizing. A crowd pleasing style.

Bottle breathe for 8 hours. Voluptous and rich. Plenty of ripe black currant, blackcherry, dark chocolate, eucalyptus, some wild herbs like thyme and blackpepper, distinctive sweet vanilla and toast from oak. Powerful yet seamless and velvet. Still youthful at 20 years old. Always a delight to drink Grange.

Hint of TCA that blows off with air revealed the deep black fruits, leathery, tobacco characters mingling with some savoury earth and pencil shavings notes, old library. Still have noticeable tannins that hold it well against time. Lovely tonight.
