Hint of TCA that blows off with air revealed the deep black fruits, leathery, tobacco characters mingling with some savoury earth and pencil shavings notes, old library. Still have noticeable tannins that hold it well against time. Lovely tonight.

My last Latour from 1970s. Very dark; barely a hint of brick edge. 1975’s tannins all gone; good fresh acidity. All of two hours before the kernel of sweetness appeared along with dense black currant aroma. Was still opening up after it’s 48 years slumber when we finished the bottle. I doubt whether it would have become a top Latour, but a remarkable wine. Geoffrey Ingham

Seemed dead and past it’s prime. Still drinkable but far from great.
