Slight bricking color. This is softer and silkier than I expected. Easy drinking with very fine tannin, pretty good acid. Dried red fruits, dried flowers, slight cola, slight orange rind, perhaps some dried mushroom. There is quite a bit of intensity and fruit but the wine still comes across as elegant. I think this will develop some more complexity, too. Pretty good and Ann liked it too.

I like the cool 2011 vintage in CA, at least when it comes to Syrah and Pinot. This has been open for a day, under cork in the refrigerator. The wine still is a little cooler than it should be but there is good acid buffering slightly tart dark fruit, some olive, very light white pepper and maybe a touch of soy. Medium tannin. 14.1% alc. I wish I bought more than one as this pretty good today.

Not sure what to think of this wine. Pale, slightly translucent red color. Reticent nose with light fruit and spice. At first the wine is very acidic, almost effervescent. The wine is lean with light red fruits, light spice, earth and mineral. With air it loses the effervescent quality and puts on just a little weight. It is still very light and delicate though. The bottle has been open about two hours. We'll see what happens with more air. I'm glad Ann is not drinking this with me because I don't think there is a chance in hell she would like it.

Day 2: just about a half bottle left over under cork in the fridge. Smoother and better balanced today. Yesterday the acid was just too much. Same red fruit and spice. Perhaps less mineral today. I like it more than yesterday.

As others have said, this is modern styled, and even more so than I expected. Black fruits, plum, and chocolate. I thought brown sugar and faint toffee but Ann said light caramel. I see Chainthroer also noted mentioned that in his note. Light/medium tannin and decent acidity balance out the fruit. Pretty easy drinking now but I thnk it might be better down the road a few years.

Day 2: shows even better with less sweetness and oak influence; more structure and mineral notes.

From a 3 liter. The wine was ecanted briefly before drinking around a fire pit. This was very tight and reserved, showing some crushed white pepper and some iodine. The fruit was a tart mix of red and black. Good acid and light tannin. I came back to this a couple times over an hour or two but it never really opened up. We had this wine about 18 months ago at a CdP themed dinner and that 750ml bottle showed more fruit, balance and complexity. I'm not sure if it was the large format bottle this time, the cool outdoor setting or bottle variation.
