2016 Château SansonnetSt. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more |
5/18/2024 - HU Likes this wine: 91 pointsPnP. Still young and quite tannic. Typical Bordeaux. Dark, medium to full body. Dark fruits, licorice, spices, leather. A decent wine, though I was hoping for more. Perhaps in a few years? |

5/18/2024 - HU Likes this wine: 93 pointsPnP. Wonderful aromas wafting from the bottle. Dark red, medium to full body. It is in a good place. Subdued tannins. Nice and bright acidity. Licorice, tobacco, earth, leather. Nice and round, balanced, a pleasure to drink. No need to drink up at all, but no shame to open now. |

2015 Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Brunello di MontalcinoSangiovese more |
5/17/2024 - HU Likes this wine: 93 pointsPnP. A good, typical Brunello. Beautiful aromas wafting from the open bottle. Grapefruit and red cherries, tobacco, minerals, earth. Medium body. Dark red. Still too young. Quite sandy upon opening, and it mellowed and developed over two hours ( then the bottle was empty ). It may be better to wait another two years or so, before drinking the next. We have three more: will we manage? |

2022 Hofgut Falkenstein Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Spätlese feinherbMosel Saar Ruwer more |
5/5/2024 - HU wrote: 94 pointsI have yet to taste it. Mosel Fine Wines rates it 94 ( which I copied here ) and writes: "The 2022er Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Spatlese Feinherb Palm (the reference to this internal cask name is provided in small print on the label after the AP number) comes from different small parcels on the western side of the vineyard and was fermented down to off-dry levels of residual sugar. Slightly reductive at first, this quickly opens up to reveal beautiful notes of vineyard peach, Conference pear, minty herbs, and stone fruits. The wine proves incredibly creamy and refined on the delicately smooth and beautifully refined palate. The finish is more focused as zesty elements come through. Aromatic and fruity flavors are wrapped into fine spices and herbal elements in the after-taste. Drink: 2027 - 2042." |

2016 Château CantemerleHaut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend more |
4/30/2024 - HU Likes this wine: 92 pointsA cautious 92. PnP, then drank over three nights. Dark red, medium body, quite acidic and tannic. On day 1, it felt a little flat, almost thin. Green peppers dominant. Best on day 2 and perhaps 3, to be enjoyed slowly and sip-by-sip. Spices, earth, some dark fruits emerging. My best guess is that this is too young to drink now. I have 5 more and will wait until 2027 or so, before opening the next one. I am hoping it deserves a higher grade then. |

2016 Château Tour Saint-ChristopheSt. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more |
4/25/2024 - HU Likes this wine: 92 pointsPnP, drank over three days. Best on day three. Earth, leather, dark berries. Way too young, though. Clearly tannic, even on day 3. It is enjoyable to drink now. But it seems much better to wait for at least another three years, if not more. It might deserve a better grade then. |

2015 Argiano Brunello di MontalcinoSangiovese more |
4/16/2024 - HU Likes this wine: 93 pointsPnp. This is good. What a wonderful Brunello, just as you expect and want it. No detours, no odd surprises, just a good Brunello. You know: red cherry, medium bodied, earthy notes. The color of th wine is starting to recede from dark red to that aging amber. Good to drink now, but it will still have plenty of years ahead, if you care to wait. It will be hard, though. … Update 2024-05-08: very good wine, and on its way to full maturity. We also had the 2016 the same evening. By comparison, the 2015 has more earthy flavors, multiple layers, and is overall more round at this stage. Both are very good: just different. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (4) |

2016 Torbreck Shiraz The StruieBarossa more |
3/23/2024 - HU Likes this wine: 94 pointsDark, full-bodied. The smell wafts from the bottle upon opening. An oily, rich, intense Shiraz. Earth, dark berries, pepper, orange peel. Enjoyable now, but still young and probably still improving. This will last quite a number of years. 93 or 94? A generous 94. |

3/20/2024 - HU wrote: 91 pointsPnP. Could be a 92. Still very tannic: I suggest to wait another three years or so. Medium body. Tastes of orange peel, citrus. Sharp edges. Interesting, but I am hoping it will develop into something bettter. |

2/17/2024 - HU Likes this wine: 91 pointsI drank it over two nights. Decent wine, a crowd pleasure. Ready to be consumed now. Dark, medium to full body. No tannins, slightly sweetish, chocolate, dark berries, good Cab. Good QPR. Nothing wrong with it, but not special either. At 20$, nothing to complain about. I am torn whether I should buy more. |

2/2/2024 - HU wrote: 96 pointsWe promised ourselves in February 2021 to drink the next one three years later: so we did. Boy, this wine really came out of its shell! Still young, still many years ahead, but it is in a good drinking window now. Dark, sumptuous, medium to full body. No taste stands out in particular: it just is simply a very good wine. Perhaps the best analogy is that the wine is like meeting of excellent education, manners and pedigree: high society at its finest ( and not of the trashy kind ). “Elegant”, “noble” or even “royal” describes it best. 96 points now, and it might deserve even more. 3 people found this helpful, do you? 1/24/2024 - HU Likes this wine: 92 pointsRich smell and taste, but still very tight. Perhaps wait three years to drink the next one: so 2027. I added drinking dates 2025 to 2035, but it is a wild guess. 92 for now. Might be higher in the future. 100 JD points? May be not. |

1/17/2024 - HU Likes this wine: 94 pointsPnP. Rich, opulent, dark. Tastes of dark cherries, lingering for an amazingly long time. A wine to be cherished sip by sip. Will still last for more years, but ready to drink now. 93 or 94? Let’s say a somewhat generous 94 this time. I have five more and I am glad that I do. |

2012 Wynns Coonawarra Estate Shiraz V & A Lanemore |
1/17/2024 - HU Likes this wine: 92 pointsWe got this as a present from a good friend, since Wynn‘s wine are nearly impossible to buy in the U.S. ( anyone know a source ) and he was in Australia, where we had been a few years prior. In fact, a Cabernet-Shiraz from Wynn‘s a few years back, enjoying two bottles of it at a small restaurant in nearly empty, tiny Coonawara, brought us into collecting wines in the first place. So this one brought back all kinds of pleasant memories. It tasted exactly as we remembered. Very enjoyable, very Coonawara, and hopefully, I will be back there one day. |

2013 Clos du Val Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valleymore |
1/6/2024 - HU Likes this wine: 92 pointsWe were nervous opening this one, having discarded the previous one two years ago. Great smell upon opening, but quite austere the first half hour or so. But then it opened up beautifully over the course of the evening, mellowed out, and became quite delicious. The typical cab taste was mixed with a more acidic style, but overall a very enjoyable wine now. The wine probably lasts a few more years, but may be at its peak now. We have one more bottle to drink at any time. |

12/8/2023 - HU wrote: 91 pointsI opened another one. The initial taste is odd: sweetish and cheaply appealing, rather flat. But it developed during the first day. I left the bottle open over night, recorked and had the rest the next night. Pleasant and tasty to drink now. Dark and medium-to-full-bodied. Dark berries. Not tannic: so I don’t know whether this wine will last many more years. It may be close to its peak. But it is a reasonably decent and enjoyable wine now, if you let it air for a while. I won’t pour my remaining bottles into the drain as I thought I might do two years ago. I am looking forward to opening the next one. But who knows: perhaps I will change my mind then. |

11/24/2023 - HU Likes this wine: 96 pointsPnP for Thanksgiving ( you know what we ate ). Great nose, but initially just good, not overly impressive, tannins predominant. We continued to drink it over several hours, and boy, did it develop. Dark berries, tobacco, pepper, figs. At the end, I deeply regretted not having spaced out the drinking a bit more. Perhaps we should have decanted. Still quite tannic, so it surely is still on the young side, and probably better in three years or so. But can be enjoyed now: just be more patient than I was. 96 for now, based on that grand finale, but it might deserve more. |

11/17/2023 - HU Likes this wine: 93 pointsExcellent, no doubt. Rich, dense, wet earth, black tea, licorice, red cherry. A delight. But still quite tannic. It didn’t fully come out of its shell. I suspect this wine will still develop over the next years and be great, hmmh, three years from now. 93 for now. |

11/10/2023 - HU Likes this wine: 93 pointsDark, earthy, still quite tannic: so it surely still has a few years to go before it’s peak but good to drink already. Lots of fruit, cassis, dark cherry, perhaps blackberry. Black tea, licorice. Rich and dense. A bit rough around the edges. My wife liked a lot. So: a ( generous ) 93 this time around. We have four more and will see how they develop. |
