Popped and poured, airiated and drank over 2 evenings. A dark, fruity, bold pinot style typical for California central region. Somewhat floral on the nose. A bit oaky. A solid offering.

I picked this up at Grocery Outlet for $5.50 on closeout. It is definitely comparable with good entry level California pinots in the $15+ range.

Case worthy at this price!

Much lighter and fresher than I was expecting. Bright red fruits. Good length. Notes of strawberries and perhaps red current. Good acidity and length-some mild smoke. Freshness. Still pretty fruit driven and primary. Not super complex, but some and definitely well made. Enjoyable.

Not subtle. Nose is big oaky Californian with some fruit - but this is a punchy wine with not so much good as muscular acidity and savoury weight. The fruit never disappears but this wine needs robust food - not the vegetarian tomato-based sauce we had today, I think. Meat - possibly chilli - would be better. Some length but not to particularly good effect. Drinkable, assertive, and may be better integrated a few years on - but I wouldn't invest much in that hope.

Light golden. Great Chardonnay fruit in nose and flavors, unencumbered by oak. Still vibrant at 4 years old. I've tasted Chardonnays far more expensive as this that weren't half as good.

Jack and Jill. Savory fruit. Has that Monteray fruit character of broadness and being big. And it is big. Works it out at $16 or so.

Cherry color, fading at the rim. Nice nose of strawberry, herbs, blueberry. Light-bodied and sprightly on the palate, with smooth acid balance and Beaujolais-like texture only fresher. Fast finish. Gulpable and not too complicated, an excellent QPR at 15 bucks.

This is an opulent, round, soft, Viognier-like, ripe-melon, fruit-bomb of a Chardonnay. Made by Stephen Dooley of Stephen Ross wines, this is his low-end Chardonnay. At 4 years of age it's still holding up, and judging from how well his top-of-the-line Chardonnays hold up — 10 years and sometimes more — this one will be just fine for another year or so to come. Not my style — I like the crispness of Chablis and Macon — but if you like soft, ultra-fruity Chardonnays, it's a super deal.

From 500mL can. Very light color, lightly effervescent. Slightly buttery, slightly floral, but also slightly boozy smell; very yeasty. Taste is very mild, perhaps just a little fruity (apple?). A great wine to sneak into movies or music festivals, but certainly nothing particularly special.

Cherry in the nose feels a bit alcoholic hot and a little meaty with some metallic elements. The palate performs infinitely better. It's actually quite smooth and plush red fruit that paired well with veggie burgers. Extraordinarily drinkable, this is a definite house red contender. We came to appreciate the little touch sweetness that came out after 30 minutes or so.

Pale red. Light and spicy with a hint of cinnamon. From the benchlands of Monterey County, not the highlands like Santa Lucia. But what do you expect for this price? A Beaujolais-style California Pinot Noir, zippy and fun for everyday drinking.

A bit of sulphur and tropical fruit on the nose. Flavours are ripe on the palate, peach, pineapple, no oak so quite simple. Decent but no more.

Fruit forward, some oak noticeable but not overdone, some honest to goodness new world Pinot flavors, and pretty well balanced. Pleasant, enjoyable, and a very good QPR at $11 (or less in some markets).

See through dull ruby; youthful nose reminiscent of Gamay with tart red fruit that includes cranberry, strawberry, raspberry; bright and tart on the palate, sour cherry finish; lighter bodied with only 13.5% ABV; youthful and fun.

Clear with medium deep garnet color, Nose dominated by fruit mild spices. Medium plus acid levels with medium body. Palate dominated by cherries, raspberries and light oak. A bright fruit forward Central Coast pinot. Not terribly complex but nice fruit and less alcohol. Outstanding wine for the price point.
