PNP. Black cherry, blackberry, mushroom, baker’s chocolate, and licorice. Dry, dusty palate. Firm tannins on the longish finish.

This opened up very nicely over an hour. Had at business dinner in small town Pennsylvania at a great little Italian fine dining spot.

Classic style napa. Not too fat. Black fruit. Extremely polished and clean. Pie spice and cocoa. Savory notes in the background.

9th Annual Uncork Barrington Tasting (Barrington Metra Lot): Notes of tobacco, red fruit and rose petals. Nice red fruit tones on the palate but there's a subtle roasted quality to it.

After my first positive experience with this wine, I bought more and the second bottle had overwhelming oak flavors...coconut and vanilla. Tried a third bottle and it was much more subtle and tasty like the first. Very odd but just wanted to come back to this one and note the bottle variation.

I'm guessing this was flawed. Lots of green bean, asparagus and sulfur (geranium taint?) Medium-full bodied with some deeply hidden black currant behind all that green funk.

This is surprisingly good, a little bit hot but some subtle blackberry, raspberry and menthol up in the mix, tannins in the mid-palate balance it all out, moderate oak but not overbearing, and absolutely delicious with medium rare red meat.

Garnet red ( though it was dark). Wild red berry nose. The initial impression is that this is a backward wine. Barely ripe raspberry, cinnamon stick and a bit of red fruit funkiness. A tiny bit of dark chocolate as well.

This is a small producer that owns 45 acres but only keeps a small amount to make several hundred cases per year and sells the rest off. The first vintage they bottled was 2003. Opened this with a filet. Not decanted. No formal notes. 87-88 points.

Unidimensional. Not much variety characteristics. Tannins dominate on opening and not much better after an hour. Couldn't get much of anything from this wine.

Saturdays at One - Volume 28: Tasted blind. Garnet to dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of blueberries, Kirsch, white pepper and a hint of smoke. Flavors of black berries and black cherries. Medium acidity, firm tannins, medium body. Drink now with some air time or continue to hold into the short to medium term perhaps. 89+ in my book. My guess is this is the 2006 Perata Vineyards "Frank's" Cabernet Sauvignon.

Blind Tasting (Farpointe Cellar): The nose had blackberry and blueberry, and just a touch of raspberry. The palate had cedar and blackberry, and little cherry and blueberry, and some vanilla on the finish.

I've rated this 86 with no consideration for the price point, given the price this is easily a 93-94 on a QPR rating scale. Typical of Yountville, dust on the nose of this Cab. Not an oak monster, but oak is definitely present in every aspect on this wine. Medium tannin and medium-high acidity. Taste of chocolate and spice with some medicinal aftertaste in the moderate length finish. Nice and soft in the mouth Definite rebuy at the price point.

No brainer for a go-to, budget Yountville Cab when in a bit of a mood for oak. It's present throughout the wine, but to my taste is not annoyingly dominant. Darker fruit than expected--black raspberries, bit of black cherries on the nose. A little floral & vanilla are more prominent with air. Good weight on the palate, more dark fruit, a good smooth sensation, and a finish that hangs on a while to mix in dark fruits / berries, nice vanilla & a bit of warm baking spices. I'm likely to buy another as this satisfied the Cali Cab need at a good price. 89-90

After about 3 hours it was drinking at it's best for the night (I re-corked after that glass). At that point it went pretty well with a filet steak. A couple of days later the nose was faint but the wine drank nicely.
