A nice "quaffer" of a red. Nothing remarkable but its good value at AUD 26 (and you can get it cheaper).

I had higher hopes. This was pretty average and unidimensional, strong cherry notes but little else to offer. Will taste again tomorrow but for the price won’t recommend. Better Syrah in hawkes bay.

On day two I hoped this might have miraculously improved but no, still disappointing. Had a glass of Eon Pinot after which was much better, more nuanced and interesting. I’ve had wonderful b blends from Waiheke and know that there are great wines there but this isn’t one.

At 12 years old, a delightful Australian Grenache from McLaren Vale that has aged impressively well. Opaque with no brown tone. Lovely aromas of red raspberry and smoked bacon. The sip comes in silky smooth and deeply flavored, and features refreshing acidity and ample, well integrated tannin without being grippy or astringent. Overall, a lovely combination of Australian richness with French structure. Far exceeds my expectation about how poorly balanced and ageworthy Australian Grenache can be, here strikingly competitive with Rhone Valley Grenache.

Hibiscus, cherry, raspberry, mineral/graphite, and underlying green notes – Chinese bitter gourd, maybe, definitely some pine needle. Medium body with a killer mouthfeel, velvet AF, with some plumier and blueberrier notes and juicy acidity coming out on the palate. Beautiful character, very unique, and absolutely one for you Cab Franc fanboys (can we make matching T-shirts?).

Brought this to Jia He Chinese Restaurant for dinner with my wine mates. Theme of the evening: Wines that start with the letter W.

A brilliant wine showing youthful characteristics. Loads of coffee, mocha, toffee on the nose and palate. Impeccable nose and balanced on the palate with red fruits, white spices and licorice.

Based on my understanding, this winery received an "New Winery of the Year" award recently. Based on this wine, it is not difficult to understand why. This wine is an art piece and should be celebrated and honoured.

Had this a couple of times over the past week. Some pongy notes early suggest some over-ripeness but this doesn't really evenuate in the palate, Full-bodied, sensible, ultra smooth and balanced. Early drinker for mine.

PNP. Hazy magenta color (not very deep or dark). Peanut butter, rhubarb, cherry, dill, and thyme. Very smooth, dry palate. Very soft tannins on the medium long finish.

Very unique/interesting CF, but I didn’t love it. Too weak on the back end and more herbal than I like. Definitely needs food.

A great Chardonnay now developing into a quality wine as it approaches its peak drinking window. Now 7 years old it has aged well. Rich honeysuckle nose calling me in to taste its flavours. Light citrus but more rich yellow peach coming through. Had with some chicken and mushroom risotto.

Carboot Xmas drinks wines tasting (Kafe Kooks, Ultimo): Oxidised, savoury note over black fruits, cream, a little fig, raisins, caramel and walnuts with a fair alcohol prickle on the nose. Thick, lusciously sweet, black fruits, liquorice, toffee made with Muscovado sugar, raisins, slight prunes, plenty of alcohol warmth on the finish. It's all quite shouty, alcohol a little too high for what's going on.

2019 Wine for the People La Valentia Born of Courage

Texas Syrah Blend, Syrah more

11/11/2022 - Sourdough Does not like this wine: 83 points

I rarely find Texas Syrah appealling and sadly this fails to break the pattern. While Rae's wines are usually nuanced and appealing, this strikes me as an unresolved, disjoint mess. Perhaps more age will help, but for now thus wine simply does not work for me. Onthe positive side, there are no glaring flaws, just a flavor profile that I find unappealing. With time and air it may come out better but???
