Brick rim and dense core. It was similar to my last bottle but "barnyard" notes are a bit beyond the "it adds to the complexity" level. It's very fragrant, with some dark fruit and black olive again. Palate remains complex and the fruit ripe. Wife liked it more than I did...

Slightly corked, but still dark and massive. If I had another bottle I'd hold it for 5+ years before drinking.

As before, but tannins and acid a little reduced, making for a better balanced wine. Finish is still a little muted.
Good with food might get better over the next two years.

Still a nice dense ruby/purple color, it has a penetrating nose of dark fruit, minerals, earth, and a bit too much black olive for my taste. Palate echoes the nose, with very nice density and length. Very sturdy still, reminds me of some Howell Mtn wines I've had.

90-91. Less tight than before. Opened more quickly. Smooth howell mountain fruit with lingering tannins, but the fruit was not as masked and slightly more forward with balanced acidity. A nice effort. Glad i have more at closeout price..

Not as tannic as one would expect from a Howell Mtn wine. Extremely earthy, almost farmy. Reminded me of a Kunde Cab. I am a huge howell mtn fan and was very, very disappointed with this effort. I tried this over a period of 5 hours trying to get it to come around, but I never found the fruit.

Deep dark red center, red rim with some age, full legs.
Cassis, smoke, stalky, dark plums, shellac, wood, pepper.
Soft entry, lighter red fruits, some maturity, followed by acidity & tannin, good length with slightly tart overtones.
Excellent, but future unclear. If the fruit survives a couple of years the tannin and acid will reduce and leave a great wine.

Still tight. Lots of good balance and more of a bordeaux-like balance and complexity, but the fine grained tannins are drying and hide the medium amount of fruit there. Nice acidity balances out the wine and make it maintain some freshness. Better Day 2 with more complexity coming out and the tannins slightly less pronounced. Probably would have been good far another day as well. Drink with heavy, double decanting or hold. Don't think this will ever be great. 50/50 as to whether this gets better wiith time versus what a long decant will get you. 89-90.

Started off with typical bordeaux smells and tastes. Went better with food. Did not last long before fading.

Compare to previous note. Tannins have become more integrated, but the fruit has begun to recede. This will still be good for next couple years. The aromas have developed very nicely to include leather, cedar and sage. Nicely done, and better than two years ago.

Nice aromas of leather, tea, dried cherries, potpourri, red currant, guava, and anise. Flavors of dried cherries, oak, dust, and tea. Good acidity, still bright on the palate, through the earth and dusty aromas. Tannins were definitely prevalent, but overall the mouthfeel was pretty silky.

Excellent. Completely agree with the Bordeaux characterization. Color a bit off but aroma and taste right where they needed to be after brief decanting. Don't see it lasting to 2012 though.

90-91 pts. Drink this after 3 days decanting(joke). really tight upon open. day 2 is better, day 3 is good. tastes more like a bordeaux than napa in some ways. tight. hold.

A ripe and concentrated wine with plum, currant, cherry and sage. A nice finish with good structure and tannins. A good representation of Howell Mountain fruit and texture.

2nd Annual Holiday Party (NW Suburbs Chicago): For a 2000 this has alot of intense fruit and strong tannins. Very good mountain cab even in an off-vintage year. A lot going on in the mouth.
