Drank from magnum... no formal notes taken, but this was absolutely alive and thriving. It took about an hour of air to really start to come around and reveal its fruit; at first I feared it was gone, but it actually was the opposite... just needed air. A beautiful, complete Valpolicella Superiore, with integrated, but still present structure. Look forward to exploring the next bottle in more detail, but this fit the bill exactly for what you want it to be at this age.

Last bottle of a case for me, and first bottle in 5 years. The wine is still fully intact an tasting similarly to as it has for the last decade. Still plenty of tannins and acid holding it all together, but the fruit has began to fade to the background and the acid is not as vibrant as it once was. All the horseyness is still present, as you may expect, though. So since the fruit and acid faded, it's not nearly as interesting or integrated as it was in its youth.

9/4/2018 5:09:00 PM - David. Thanks for your question about my high rating of the 2012 Evening Land Pinot Noir. I tasted the wine with a wine director of a major restaurant. He agreed with the WS rating of 98 points. Thought it was an outstanding wine and proceeded to give us a professional somm description of the wine that was a real crowd pleaser, I see that there is fairly wide range of professional ratings for this wine. I think that letting it breathe for a couple of hours allows this wine to come alive.

Second of the first 6 bottles from a case that’s horribly corked.
