What a surprise to find this well-structured fruity and almost opulent wine waiting for us, and continuing to improve to "the last drop!" |

My tastes have changed over the years and I am no longer interested in retaining this bottle, HOWEVER I cannot reliably vouch for the condition of the wine. Therefore if anyone is in the Grand Haven MI area and would like this bottle I would be glad to let you have it. Gratis. This is NOT an offer to sell, it's free. |

7/19/2015 - slmckenney Likes this wine: 90 pointsStill very dark purple and quite intense for a fifteen year old...plummy and jammy on the palate, with berry flavors and currant, still a bit of tannin even after a bit of decant time. lovely wine to have with tonight's steak and potatoes! |

11/25/2014 - slmckenney Likes this wine: 94 pointsThe cork was soaked and came out, thankfully, in three big enough pieces...though I would have put up with some cork to enjoy this wine! Dark, currants, and leather underlay the still decent fruit on the palette. This is my last one of a case I purchased as futures...wish I had bought more! |

11/9/2013 - slmckenney Likes this wine: 82 pointsPurchased at Costco and am quite pleased, had it tonight with a nice cut of beef and the wine held up nicely, a slight bit thin on the finish but very tasty. The wine looks Ruby colored. It smells like Blackberry, Raspberry, Fig, Forest floor, and Black Pepper. It tastes like Blackberry, Raspberry, and Black currant (cassis). The body is Light/Medium. The wine has Smooth texture. The wine finishes Short. |

Delivers great mouth-feel and a nice finish. |

10/14/2011 - slmckenney wrote: 90 points- Garnet color and aromas of blackberry, black currant and mushroom and has flavours of blackberry and licorice anise with a medium finish - this 1.5 liter bottle had been purchased at the source on a trip in the fall of 2000. Too bad I have not held up as well! While it was not tannic upon first inspection, it did appear young and was significantly more approachable after an hour or so. Velvety smooth, it was the favorite of the night, and the last few tastes made me wish that had not been so frugal on my purchases. In fact, in a large bottle, this wine had many more cellarable years! |

12/31/2010 - slmckenney wrote: 74 pointsWine had been held by us for several months after being stored in a closet for many years with little to safeguard it, until we could get together to 'sample' it. It showed. Cork was brittle, completely hard and significant ullage loss had occurred, the wine was flat, dry and fruitless with no tannin structure whatsoever, while still retaining some decent color to the edge. We all took a sip or two and went on to several other bottles to have with dinner. This was unfortunate as it was the storage that was at fault, not the wine. Even more unfortunate is the fact that she has six more bottle at home in her closet... |

11/10/2010 - slmckenney wrote: 86 pointsSolidly black cork base but no sign of any fouling, with a nice cedary nose and a subtle leathery tone on the tongue. This is one of only four remaining (now) twenty year old Meyney's left in my cellar and I never thought that I would have them, or enjoy them, this long. Enjoyed with a nice strip steak, the wine opened up quite nicely throughout the meal and provided an enjoyable backdrop to the meal. It is beyond 'standing on it's own' and there is little fruit left, with almost no tannin left, but this was a wine meant for meal time pleasure and it still can provide that. The others need to be drunk up soon... |

12/28/2009 - slmckenney wrote: 86 pointsThis three liter bottle is one that I bought at a charity auction about five years ago, and was somewhat nervous regarding prior storage. When I cracked through all the wax and removed the cork, we got a dry, musty odor that was disappointing and I assumed the worst out of this big bottle. The first taste was flat, fruitless and flabby. Sitting in the glass for just a few minutes and noting the changes led us to decide to decant it anyway (several decanters needed!) and the wine continued to open up and delight us all evening. Leathery, earthy notes with increasing fullness and flavor as it opened up, absolutely no tannins - this wine was ready to drink and is probably on the downside except for the three liter bottle. Very nice wine and a great treat for my guests. |

12/28/2009 - slmckenney wrote: 88 pointsWow, this was one of my older bottles and I had some concerns about storage conditions historically with this wine, but we had it at Christmas time and it was, after a little time in the decanter, very nice. Still vibrant on the edges with nice cedary overtones and berry notes. well worth the wait. |

9/26/2009 - slmckenney wrote: 85 pointsSecond bottle, after disposing of the other, much more like the others from this purchase. Plummy with black raspberry overtones with very light tannin influence, think it will open up over the next hour or two while my dinner is cooking. |
