The 1989 Château d'Angludet is drinking nicely, offering up aromas of sweet berry fruit, tobacco and loamy soil tones, followed by a medium-bodied, elegantly fleshy and open-knit palate framed by mostly melted tannins and ripe acids. Despite gaining weight—as almost all Bordeaux do—in the decanter, it remains light on its feet, exemplifying the extinct category of "luncheon [or even, motoring] claret".
I've been gradually polishing off a case over recent months, and have considered most bottles to be very pleasant but far from earth shattering. Last night, however, i decanted a bottle for much longer (4 hours) and the characteristics changed beyond recognition - the wine put on weight and developed wallops of tobacco and syrah-like smoked bacon. Quite wonderful, in fact.

Not a heavyweight, nicely balanced easy drinking claret, on the tarry side with a decent baked berries nose and decent length, at its peak now I think and the other bottle I have should be consumed in the not to distant future. Just consumed the last bottle of this wine, not going anywhere just treading water, my remarks remain the same just a bit less freshness.

This is from memory, but decent drinking claret, nothing to get excited about and not really worth cellaring any longer, drunk up about eighteen months ago, typical of a lesser Bordeaux though from a very good year.

short finish, light in colour, slightly oxidised, still able to take some pleasure in this but not for much longer I think. Over the hill.
