4/25/2024 - WineGuyX Likes this wine: 91 pointsThis took a full hour of near continuous decantations to come around. Finally revealing aromas of eucalyptus, blackberry, toasty, new oak, cedar, culinary herb scents and red currants. Quite rich and full-bodied, loaded with sweet red cherries and currants, toasted oak, hot gravel and some brooding black fruits and soil. This has a corpulent frame supported on a scaffold of layered tannins and brisk acidity. This will benefit from another 2-3 years in the cellar to open and shed some tannin and should reach age 15+ in fine shape. 91 |

4/25/2024 - Quarked wrote: 92 pointsThis is what I'm hoping for in aged but inexpensive shiraz. Medium-bodied, bright, with good acidity and blue fruits. It's obviously Australian, but really well balanced and picking up secondary flavors. These Aussie wines seem to develop so slowly under screwcap that I could imagine it going another 10+ years. More or less the same over two nights. |

3/1/2024 - chatters wrote: NRIvy Sommelier tasting (Mumu, George Street): From magnum. Initially it's pretty red fruit with a smidge too much oak but falls apart in the glass. Bella suggest tinned baked beans but I don't see it. I will acknowledge, though, mismanaged whole bunch and tomato leaf. |

4/25/2024 - Duncan wrote: 88 pointsA relief: a good condition bottle after the faulty 2020 I had recently. Vibrant mid-purple, not opaque. On the nose, plums and cherries and a good dose of sweet vanilla. The palate is surprising: sweet fruit and vanilla, yes, but unusually high acidity. (The 2020 had that too, as well as secondary fermentation and possibly brett.) I've never had an Aussie Shiraz that is so 'bright.' I think the winemaker just about gets away with it, but it's right on the edge of being out of balance. The relatively high alcohol adds to the wine's assertive attack. The fruit length is short, but the acid tingles on my tongue for quite some time. 14.5%, screwcap. |
