Very, very tasty. Vinous, a little mineral and tight on the nose. Good fruit and earth and great acids. Tannin still brings some power on the back end.

Small glass at the end of many bottles so only brief notes. Beautiful nose of fig and fig compote. Dark chocolate and raisin, more fig on the long finish. What a treat. 93+

NV Cockburn Porto 20 Year Old Tawny

Port Blend more

Purchased for $50 and opened for #tawnytuesday. Burnt amber tawny in color with garnet hues. Lovely nose of toffee, vanilla stone fruit. On the palate, lots of the same with the stone fruit morphing into peach and nectarines. Almost hints of peach tea. I love the play between the vanilla and stone fruit. The mouthfeel is luxurious, almost like a cashmere sweater. So soft and elegant. Yet the acidity is still vibrant and lip-smacking. There's a sight bitter orange note on the medium length finish. It's not bad, it adds another dimension, but I don't like that it interrupts that vanilla and stone fruit duet.

Drank over many months. Not really my style. Wasn’t bad, but wouldn’t buy again. Coffee, plums, prunes, and subtle chocolate. Almost black in color. Very rich and deep. Was a charity purchase which is all that matters!

Deep garnet in color. Nose of plums, dark cherries, chocolate, and a hint of menthol. Taste of dark chocolate, dark cherry, plum, and a hint of vanilla. Just starting to develop secondary flavors. Rich and lovely mouthfeel. Good supporting acidity. Drink now and over the next 3-5 years.

Hard to add to Motz's notes below. Lovely deep red colour. This is a classic one and certainly can develop more. Shared with a small group, mostly not Port converts. They became so after this wine! Glad I laid down a few bottles. See you in ten years.

Tasted alongside the 2016

The loud, fruit and berry driven bouquet also features unbalanced alcohol. The wine tastes like it smells, along with the all too predictable alcy burn. Medium acid and tannin.

Overall, an in-your-face blockbuster. Wines in this style tend to flame out after twelve to fifteen years from vintage. Alcohol will likely preserve its shell for several years thereafter.

Best with marbled steak. In no way the equal of the 2016.

Tasted alongside the 2017.

Gorgeous perfume of blue and purple fruits and berries, thick petal flowers, late summer potpourri, berry liqueurs, mint, sous bois, and complex earthiness. Minimal alcohol intrusiveness. Sophisticated, layered, intriguing.

The wine tastes like it smells, in inflection changing waves. Harmonious at all phases. The elegance masks impressive structure. Deep and satisfying finish.

All elements point to an optimal drinking window after 2040. No reason not to sample bottles now and there is an upside. Higher quality than the 2017. 95-96.

Tasted alongside the 2016 and 2017 Vintage Cockburn.

Purple fruits and berries, in perfumed, elegant style. In a word: sensuous. Compact, inflection changing textures, excellent delineation, deft balance, and structured. Five to seven years in the cellar will serve it well. Drink by 2030-2033.

At Boston Wine & Poker, Needham, Mass.: This came at the end of a long lineup, and my tasting notes tend to become more cursory in these situations. So, this is very drinkable youngish port, with no alcoholic burn, but not yet the mellowness of age, and without the complexity that may emerge with more time in the bottle.

Aromatic and ripe. Some viscous texture. Tasty and well made, though bitterness from alcohol might stick out a bit. Drink now.

Notes of raisin, black currant, and baking spice commingle throughout, with a fleeting hint of tannin on the finish. Nice enough, but a bit sweeter and less complex than I'd expected.

Bottle in excellent condition. Decanted gently as great deal of sediment. Nose showed zero hints of the TCA described in older Cockburns. Great mature port with powerful nose of dark cherries, prune, fig, pepper, leather. Long intense finish. Had opened up further when finished the next day. Great port. (@Home)

Korken ut i to deler.

Well, I’m afraid we waited too long on this one. Still very enjoyable with lots of caramel, almond, Grand Marnier, but fainter structure than expected, just a little pale overall impression.

FTLOP 18th Anniversary; 11/17/2023-11/19/2023 (Seattle, Washington): Amber-ruby hue. Aromas of Christmas spices and dried nuts create a sense of complexity, with intriguing hints of Tawny Port characteristics adding depth. The palate is rich and intense, featuring a delightful array of baking spices and notes of lemon peel. The sharp cinnamon undertones evoke a distinct Vintage Port profile. It has a nice, long finish.

So black that you cannot see through a half inch pour. Captivating aromas of fig, dates, walnuts, pecans, molasses, and plum jam, with no whiff of alcoholic heat in the nose despite having a 20% alcohol level. Utterly caressing, mouth coating, and juicy. The swallow adds blackberry, creme de cassis, cocoa, vanilla, marshmallow, and an exotic and almost endless tickle in the mouth. Overall, a stunningly complex, complete, and delicious dessert by itself, and a piece of heaven on earth consumed with foie gras or oven roasted pecans. 16 years young and heading strong into the next decade.
