Much more open than my first bottle three years ago. Rich, broad nose and mouth feel with brioche, citrus and pear notes. Very 2013 Chardonnay which is right up my alley; brilliant drive and salinity. Another one of those very complete wines with a lot of everything. The most difficult champagne cork I've ever removed, we could not get it out with our hands and I had to use a corkscrew. This was spectacular from the start. Classic Mesnil, with green apple and ripe lemon, jasmine flowers, crushed rocks, pastry crust, and just a slight patina of hazelnuty development. Great acidity and generally quite light and lifted on the palate with a bit of brioche, more lemon, and mineral flavors. Nice finish. A lovely wine that opened up nicely with air. There's more flesh to the bones here, and this shows plumpness to the chardonnay fruit that some of the other vintages have missed. Initially muted, with air combines earthy truffle aromas with invigorating freshness. On the palate, it's powerful and acidic, with a liveliness that keeps a long aftertaste.
