4/8/2024 - dwhit Likes this wine: NR4-8-24 Easily the best Prosecco I've ever had. Almost clear, crisp with a fine bead. Light, delicate, very subtly sweet, elegant and very refreshing, quite food friendly, but fine as an aperitif. Perfect for when Champagne might be too weighty. All this for under $12? Over the top QPR. |

7/4/2022 - dwhit Likes this wine: 91 points7-4-22 Very elegant light-medium bodied OR pinot, with red berries on the nose and palate; light and fine tannins, medium acidity, made for a great young wine drinking experience; I would expect this to age well in the short-intermediate term, but ? maybe longer. Very nice now and for the next few years. I really like this winemakers light, but sophisticated touch. Enjoyed this much more than many more storied, expensive OR pinots. |

3/31/2022 - dwhit Likes this wine: NR3-31-22 This was good, and fun. Not complex, but quite delicious, and at about an hour open, this just PUSHED berries into your nose. Much better than any Cremant de Bourgogne, and less complex, but more fun, maybe, than Champagne, certainly better than a Champ at this price point. |

2/23/2022 - dwhit wrote: NR2-23-22 Flawed? Cork sound and not stained. From Garagiste and cellared at 55 degrees since. Brownish orange. Strange nose without discernible fruit or usual secondary pinot characteristics, did not improve over subsequent decant and 90 min., when I opened something else for dinner. Not oxidized per se, but muted, odd tastes were very disappointing: nothing like this from Guyot in the past. Have a plan B if you only have 1 of these, and better try one now if you have more. |

8/21/2021 - dwhit Does not like this wine: NRA year ago, we really enjoyed this wine, and thought it could go several more years easily. Today opened our last two bottles, and each was far too oxidized to be at all enjoyable. Both corks were tight, and wet only on the bottom surface, so ? If you've got a few, might be worth tasting them now, rather than waiting. |

4/8/2020 - dwhit wrote: 87 pointsOh, c'mon; I can't believe I'm drinking the same wine as the other reviewers describe. Are they influenced by the $40 they paid, or Rimmerman's accolades? My take was of a pleasant, simple, light bodied Beaujolais redolent of strawberry. Tasted blind, no way I'd have pegged this as pinot noir, never mind Chambole, Vosges, etc. What gives? |

3/19/2019 - dwhit wrote: NR3-19-19 Weird; it took 15 minutes and a glass of wine to figure out I don't like this. There is a fresh, light berry taste floating on top of, but seemingly disconnected from, a much more substantial 'meaty' (?) not smokey, under layer. The two just do not come together into a coherent whole, with air, food, whatever. There is not distinct flaw in the wine, and either element considered alone speaks to a well made, even elegant wine. But we stopped drinking this, and opened another bottle, instead. |

7/4/2016 - dwhit wrote: 88 points7-4-16 Had this for lunch, very slightly chilled, on the 4th under the grape arbor. As noted, this is not Brunello, and if you think Garagiste was selling you Brunello for $12, well, c'mon. If you can enjoy a fresh, impeccably made, light bodied and low alcohol red with a lovely nose of roses and cherries, and maybe a little bit of raspberry in the mouth, this is currently a nice summer quaffer. I'm curious to see what happens to the rest of the bottle by tomorrow. |

5/31/2015 - dwhit Likes this wine: 90 points5-31-15 Nice, aged burg. Pale garnet with hints of orange at the edges, a wonderful nose that says 'old burgundy', and a mid-weight mouth feel and palate. Not over the hill, but ready to drink and very food-friendly; if you like Burgundy and are not after a California pinot experience (I will refrain from pejoratives here) you will be pleased with this, esp. if you got it from Garagiste for under $19. Do not be dissuaded by notes to the contrary. |

11/24/2014 - dwhit wrote: 86 pointsBeautiful deep garnet robe with no bricking, nice nose of red fruits and garrigue, but in the mouth just a blast of rather uninteresting sweet red fruit ( one man's 'Kirsch' is another man's 'syrupy' ) without any nuance or secondary flavors, followed by too much heat. This would not stand out as a CdeP in a blind tasting of California Rhone wines. I'll wait for a few years to try the next bottle, hoping for some interesting complexity to develop, but that heat will never go away. Way too expensive for what it is. |

9/12/2014 - dwhit Likes this wine: 89 pointsAll the approachability of a Beaujolais village somehow packaged in a classic claret; a delightful wine good on its own and complimenting a wide variety of food. Delicious, fresh fruit with just enough acid and soft tannins, best now and next 2-3 years. (No whiff of brett.) |

4/27/2014 - dwhit wrote: 90 pointsDark, almost opaque, with a garnet rim; lovely cab nose; dark and deep fruits which, together with the fine but firm tannins, make the wine seem younger than 9+ years. Not yet complex, but this wine could go many more years and surprise anyone who thought it simple or boring. As it is now, an enjoyable wine, especially with food, without the drying, dusty tannins I expect with Italian reds. A good deal @ $23. |

6/14/2013 - dwhit wrote: 88 pointsLots of dark fruit and some oak on the nose; the same fruit, rich and ripe, in the mouth, with a bit of heat on the finish. While I generally don't much like Calif. pinots, I was pleased enough with this one until I had a $14 '08 Beaune at the same meal. The French wine had much less heft and fruit, but more nuance and interest, and it's acidity made it more lively in the mouth and better with food. Going back to the Peay then, it seemed syrupy - too heavy and simple - by comparison. Four of us finished the Beaune, and left half a bottle of Peay by the end of lunch. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

I hadn't any idea what he was talking about, as my fist 5 bottles were rich and toasty, sure, but not at all oxidized; this last one was, to the extent that we just consigned it to the vinegar barrel after our first glass, and opened something else. Well, at this price, 5 out of 6 wasn't bad... |

At this point, it needs the air, and was a lilting, elegant (at this price level) light bodied wine with fragrant fruit and a charming gentleness which was jarred by its acidity. Give it another year or two to come together, and this will be a handy little go-to burg. |

1/31/2013 - dwhit Does not like this wine: NRI'm not giving a point score on this wine, as perhaps the problem was opening it too soon (2 months) after Garagiste shipped it, but my experience was very similar to Ucbeau's; the wine was beautiful - deep, rich, and nicely balanced - on opening, but by 30 minutes later, it had taken on a disjointed, almost harsh charactor that seemed to have a metallic taste here, truncated fruit there, out of balance acidity here, etc. My wife and I both quit drinking it, recorked it, and tried it the next day, but no improvement or reintegration. I would let this sit several months after arrival, and then plan to drink it quickly. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |
