12/19/2017 - ryonlife Likes this wine: 92 pointsSuper tight dark cherries. Potpourri of cedar and crumbled dry leaves, strong enough to give a little tingle in the nostrils. Taste is tart and grippy, like a little old Italian lady with an attitude. And then came the meal... And the little old lady disappeared, and she came back again, in lingerie, and she said, “Let me show you my round, lush and silky that finishes for miles and miles.” |

12/11/2017 - ryonlife Likes this wine: 90 pointsAromas of fresh leather shoes that just stomped on raisins. On the palate you'll find cranberries, strawberries, and mellow pomegranate rounded out with hints of vanilla. It's velvety and red fruit forward. Acid and tannins are medium. Would have guessed this one had a bit more age, but behold it's a 2011. |

12/8/2017 - ryonlife Likes this wine: 89 pointsBrioche breadiness from fermentation on the lees is the first hit on the nose and then it goes to some green fruits and a hint of something tropical. Nice acidity and minerality on the palate. Pretty fantastic for $26!! |

11/8/2017 - ryonlife wrote: 88 pointsOur server made a disaster of the service, pushing the cork into the bottle, no filter on hand, no decanter on hand, so decanted into a water carafe and then didn’t have quite a large enough ice bucket to cool it off. Nose of dried peach, toffee, petrol. On the palate there’s high acidity that overwhelms a bit, but super impressive to taste this in an 83. Flavors of crab apple kisses. Gets better with food. |

10/31/2017 - ryonlife wrote: 91 pointsBouquet explodes with waxy golden sweet honeycomb, drizzled over strawberry jam sandwiches. Or for the more sophisticated, it's star thistle. The whiff finishes with raisins. When you take a sip, those same raisins are what you get on the tip of the tongue, not like eating raisins, but like eating the entire little red box with all the raisins in it. Then mid-palate, a bit of acid hits, then you get some Ribena—yes, the English soda juice—then it goes bold with tannins that are round but not quite silky and finishes back to that box of raisins. |

10/30/2017 - ryonlife wrote: 91 pointsYou know when you're underwater with your eyes closed and don't know which way is up? That's the experience of sipping this amber gold wine. Ripe blood orange pungently on the nose, followed by golden apple, vanilla and brown baking spices. Taste and nose are harmonious, layering in a smooth buttery texture. Nicely balanced medium acid and a pop of white peppercorn (or depending on who you are, the light tartness of a kiwi core) on the finish. Great balanced wine and tremendous value. |

7/19/2017 - ryonlife Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis wine is clear with a pale lemon appearance. The nose is clean, medium intensity with notes of lemon and characteristics of oak. On the palate, this wine is dry, medium+ acidity, medium body with flavors of green apple, lemon lime. Secondary flavors of almond and a hint of smoke. Finish is medium+ with acidity and a minerality all the way through. I enjoyed it with a Japanese-inspired rice bowl that had a hint of heat from ginger and turmeric, and the wine, nicely balanced on its own, paired just great with the dish. Note: WSET Level 2 tasting. |

7/12/2017 - ryonlife Likes this wine: 96 pointsOn the nose there's dark red fruit, eucalyptus and a mild hint of something sweet, like syrup. Coffee and chocolate hit me the most in the palate. This is big. High acidity, high tannin, high alcohol. Balanced. Finishes a bit quicker than expected. |

7/11/2017 - ryonlife Likes this wine: 95 pointsPoured from a Coravin and had first whiff and taste after 15 minutes in the glass. Not super robust on the nose for me, got some oak but not much fruit. Black cherries and cola on the palate. Medium tannins, high acid. Warm, black peppery finish. Still has a ton of structure and tastes young. After 45 minutes in the glass, had really opened up, more red fruits coming through and tannins much softer and silky. Really drinking well. Not that I wouldn't love to taste this again in 10 years. |
