  • Our server made a disaster of the service, pushing the cork into the bottle, no filter on hand, no decanter on hand, so decanted into a water carafe and then didn’t have quite a large enough ice bucket to cool it off. Nose of dried peach, toffee, petrol. On the palate there’s high acidity that overwhelms a bit, but super impressive to taste this in an 83. Flavors of crab apple kisses. Gets better with food.

  • medium gold. remarkably fresh, lush yet razor sharp chenin nose with elegant, sharply delineated floral notes is austere yet attractive; very acid, mineral flavour, firmly structured. some woodiness along with more mature notes of great class and rich floral complexity, tinged with largely yellow fruits, but a hint of a core of cassis-like intensity in nose; and softer elements on palate to somewhat counterbalance extreme acidity, slowly emerge with air. very long aftertaste. if acidity moderates in time will be superb.

  • Coulée de Serrant-a-thon: 1967 - 1990. (Racines, NYC): This continued the theme of being similar, yet with subtle differences. The wine initially showed some sulfur on the nose, but it blew off with air. The fruit is a bit more yellow and upfront here than in the '88 or '85 and shows a little bit of botrytis character and honeycomb to go along with refreshing citrus, botanical and stony notes. Big time acid structure, but the riper fruit makes it a touch more generous and appealing than the previous two wines. A-.

  • An enlightening vertical of Clos de la Coulée de Serrant (Racines, NYC): A bit of sulfur was noted when first poured, but this improved and blossomed with air. Racy and crisp; hints of yellow fruits and dusted with minerals. A bit of herbs and beeswax mixed in with hints of botrytis. Lots of flavor here and loads of personality. One of the most intriguing and "fun" wines of the night.

  • One of the most interesting wine discoveries I have ever made.
A bottle full of complex tertiary aromas, yet so incredibly fresh, with searing acidity and minerality! It fills the mouth and then keeps on and on. 30 years of age for a white wine? Easy, it appears, for a Coulée de Serrant! Drank from a Magnum.
