1999 Château de Beaucastel Côtes du Rhône Coudoulet de BeaucastelRed Rhone Blend more |
5/11/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRAgree with Giantswords note below- the wine has held up tremendously! Pop n pour- huge amounts of spice, exciting and vibrant tertiary characters with plenty of acidity and decent ruby red colour. The bottle had been standing up for around a month before opening and the colour became less clear and more opaque towards the final pour. |

5/6/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRCoravin glass at Enoteca Appia. A real pleasure to try this. Lemon pith, wax, oil, star fruit. Amazing structure, minerality and acidity that will make this age beautifully. Cant wait to try one of these with 10+ years bottle age. |

5/5/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRPlatpeeps below has it right- good notes- thanks! I’d add that this needed an hour to show its best. Would choose in place of a Barbera D’Asti or Rossi Di Montalcino for the same pairings. The savoury note is the winning feature |

2020 Aminea Aglianico Irpinia Monsignoremore |
5/4/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NR28 Euros on a restaurant wine list in Castellammare di Stabia, Campania. We asked for a good local Aglianico to go with the Tagliata di manzo, and this delivered excellent quality for its price point. Deep dark damson fruit, hints of leather and liquorice, a nice touch of bottle age having mellowed the tannins. No prominent wood. 13.5% and savoury without being excessively so. Decent value restaurant bottle. |

2020 Valdipiatta Rosso di MontepulcianoSangiovese more |
5/2/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRDecent! Nice bright sangiovese profile with moreish acidity and a touch of white pepper. The red fruits have a just the start of a developed edge- nicely deep aromatic nose, and just a hint of liquorice on the palate.Good everyday drinker to go with dinner. |

2013 Massolino BaroloNebbiolo more |
4/18/2024 - ShakinSwedens wrote: NRDay 1, muted nose that opened after 30 minutes giving a little floral terracotta, ruby red colour with no significant signs of age. Fairly classic Barolo palate, a little shrill and high pitched but decent with food, mainly red fruit, really lovely fine and firm tannic structure. 90 points but no more. |

4/13/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NROpened 2 hours before serving but needed another 90 minutes in the glass before it started showing. Great freshness, coolness on the palate, berry fruit, extremely fine tannins providing structure. Very enjoyable and has years of development ahead for those minded to hold. |

4/13/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRSuperb orange wine- only the second I have genuinely enjoyed. Was offered a small glass from a bottle opened 2 days prior, this was earthy but linear, grippy but gluggable, complex without being overwhelming or unharmonious. A bottle I need to find on my next visit to Tuscany! |

4/12/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRBanging- nose of a Gevrey - palate of a Volnay- big and beautiful. The American dream! |

2015 Château ArnauldHaut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend more |
3/31/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRThis was really delicious- hugely overperformed against its price and status. No detailed note but recall it delivering a wonderful nose, deep fruit and complexity from bottle aging of a far greater appellation in Bordeaux. Enjoyable from first to last sip (had been slow ox’d for a few hours prior to serving). Would buy again without hesitation. |

2020 Marziano Abbona Langhe Nebbiolo GarombelloLanghe DOC more |
3/27/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRDelicious and complex Langhe Nebbiolo. Perfect accompaniment to food as the freshness contains all the typical Nebbiolo notes, but the tannins drying on the finish would be heavy without something to get your teeth into. An excellent example of the genre- well worth seeking out. |

2016 Cupano Rosso di MontalcinoSangiovese more |
3/23/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRMy last bottle sadly. Threw a lot of sediment on the final glass and the palate indicated this is going through evolution- hard to say whether this is getting better as the starting point was so great! |

2018 Manuel Marinacci BarbarescoNebbiolo more |
3/14/2024 - ShakinSwedens wrote: NRVery firm and very tannic on day one- also a bit sharp. Day two found this where I would hope- still full of youthful Nebbiolo notes, but with enough of the structure and complexity unfurled to confirm this is going to be stunning. I would say this drinks exceptionally from around 5 years time, and if relying on my senses alone I’d think this has the structure for the very long haul. |

2021 Maison Harbour Gevrey-Chambertin La JusticePinot Noir more |
3/9/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRVery similar to prior note- only additional note is that it developed a “meatier” Gevrey profile on the second night this time. Wonderful structure- need to leave the others to develop- but it’s hard as there’s so much pleasure here! |

2017 Giuseppe E Figlio Mascarello Langhe Nebbiolo dai Vigneti di ProprietàLanghe DOC more |
2/22/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRSo good! Strawberries compote, hay, structure without the typical Nebbiolo tannic wall. A beguiling combination of softness, fruit, linearity, structure and early complexity. This my 8th of the case and really starting to show. Given the vintage this is even more remarkable. Unique Langhe Nebbiolo! The kind of red-fruited purity that Pinot Noir lovers will lavish £100+ a bottle on. |

2021 E. Molino Barbera d'Alba Superiore Meliamore |
2/18/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRHaving recently enjoyed and loved the 2019, and seeing how much more this was like that on the second day, I’d suggest cellaring for 2 more years to get this at its best. On day one this us too much alcohol heat and oak influence. Day two this is all cool dark fruit and the oak’s major influence is tannic structure and subtle framing. |

2021 La Rasina Rosso di MontalcinoSangiovese more |
2/17/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NREnjoyable. Great freshness with a very enjoyable nose. The nose was actually not typical- I could almost have called it a Cab Franc from the aroma. Tasted with friends at a party so no detailed note- but glad to have tried this after a disappointing bottle of aged Brunello from this producer last year. |

2021 Elio Altare Langhe NebbioloLanghe DOC more |
2/14/2024 - ShakinSwedens wrote: NRZesty, structured, raspberries, deep-red cherries. Very acid driven and full-fruited. If it wasn’t for the tannins I might have mistaken this blind for Barbera D’alba. But that tannin structure is very much to the fore and I like it! |

2016 G.D. Vajra Barolo RaveraNebbiolo more |
2/10/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRVery enjoyable indeed! Superbly finely integrated tannins in the first 3-4 hours that became more assertive without ever becoming domineering. |

2016 Carlo Revello & Figli BaroloNebbiolo more |
1/20/2024 - ShakinSwedens wrote: NRMore dark and brooding than I had expected- wonder if Monforte fruit in the main? Not much of this is La Morra! Definite barrique influence on opening- this did soften with time in glass but probably better with more age to integrate it. A really serious full bodied and spicy barolo. |

2022 Heppington Pinot GrisKent more |
1/18/2024 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NROpened beautifully, a touch of oak on the nose, a light footed elegant and very feminine wine initially that took on body over the first hour or so. Super, floral and expressive. This will be perfect on a summer day, but was equally a lovely after work thirst quencher. Only 12%. On the third hour it’s suddenly fallen away to being still expressive on the nose but otherwise rather thin and mainly tartaric acid in the mouth. |

2016 Vigne del Patrimonio VepreLazio Cabernet Franc more |
12/27/2023 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRWine of the week! A wonderful deep and enticingly balsamic nose. This is cab franc with extra Italian vim! I loved it from first nose to last drop. Unpretentious and delicious. The perfect restaurant wine list discovery. |

2012 Tenuta Col d'Orcia Brunello di MontalcinoSangiovese more |
12/25/2023 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRDecent. Fresh, red fruited and structurally balanced. Not going to set the world on fire at this stage. Probably has some upside from further development as it certainly has another 10 years in the tank- probably more.. A nice food wine and good expression of Sangiovese typicity. |

2019 I Custodi Etna AntèEtna DOC White Blend more |
12/24/2023 - ShakinSwedens Likes this wine: NRExcellent- possibly the most complex etna bianco I’ve yet tried and definitely my favourite today! Only 12% but creamy with a slightly oaked nose and a sweet sharp inner core of lemon sherbert. |
