2009 TOR Cabernet SauvignonNapa Valley more |
2/14/2012 - jaxpaj wrote: 92 pointsExtremely big wine that tip-toes the line of being over the top. I love an in your face big bold red but they may of crossed the line a little bit. Dried sweet currants, oak, and maybe a touch of liquid smoke. The finish is long and the wine is very polarizing on reviews. If you like massive wines this should be a must try. |

2/14/2012 - jaxpaj wrote: 96 pointsMedium body, dark ruby color, and a wonderful nose. Hits you with gentle notes of red fruit, dark chocolate. The wine then explodes into a mouth filling extremely deep wine, touches of oak and mineral along with creamy tannins. The tannins kick in the finish which is everlasting. If I can hold off this will be a awesome wine in 5-10 years, potential 100pt. |

2/8/2012 - jaxpaj wrote: 95 pointsI would bet you that the disparity in the scores from other users is based on if they decanted or not. I opened and poured myself a small glass the decanted the rest. Initially the wine was a 91-92: medium bodied, dark fruit, smoky medium tannins, finished with a touch of oak. After 5 hours of air time the wine improved so much!! Full bodied, touches of chocolate and currants arrived and the tannins turned velvety. The finish had an intriguing depth with touches of espresso and mineral. This could grow to a 97-98pt wine with some patience. This makes me wonder what other wines I have robbed of the opportunity to shine by not decanting. |

2/6/2012 - jaxpaj wrote: 96 pointsAnother great experience, it is hard to beat this for 2003. A well done "typical CA style wine", this is the wine that could open some eyes. Rich, full bodied, deep wine. Creamy tannins, oak, perfectly ripened fruit, with just a touch of earth/mineral that helps bring everything into balance. |

2/6/2012 - jaxpaj wrote: 95 pointsI preferred this over the 07. Very approachable and enjoyable wine. Medium tannins are silky with layers of oak, dark chocolate, tanned leather and cassis. The 07 will be better in 7-10 years but this is very enjoyable now. |

2/2/2012 - jaxpaj wrote: 90 pointsConsumed over 3 days and the wine is just needs more time in the bottle. Not sure if the blend is spot on. Dark fruit with a rustic and earthy tone. If this wine comes together with a few more years it could be a blockbuster but I don't think it will. I prefer the Syrah. |

1/26/2012 - jaxpaj wrote: 95 pointsMy favorite of the 2009s right now. There is something at the core of all Myriad wines, not sure how to describe but it is wonderful. That Mike Smith flavor/taste at the heart of the wine rounds out a wonderful mountain wine. Rustic blue fruit, Dark Ruby core with touches of dark chocolate, oak and vanilla, finish it off with a nice long lasting finish. I think this is his best spring mountain. If I recall correctly he changed vineyards starting in 2009 for the Spring Mountain District. Can't wait to see where this goes over the next 5-10 years. |

1/23/2012 - jaxpaj wrote: 88 pointsSecond bottle from Sanguis and I just don't get the hype. Both bottles have had a thin port quality to them. A hint of licorice and eucalyptus really make these stand out but not in a good way. |

1/20/2012 - jaxpaj wrote: 96 pointsI have trouble with pairing Chardonnay with dinner. I like bold foods so the wine gets lost, this Chard has no problem keeping up. Paired wonderfully with Oysters Rockefeller and sea scallops. Full bodied, notes of ripe fruit, swirls of caramel and vanilla, and a well integrated touch of oak. |

2005 Penfolds Shiraz RWTBarossa Valley more |
1/9/2012 - jaxpaj wrote: 93 pointsThis has opened and is now ready to drink. Last year this was very tight and the tannins were very strong, holding back the wine and keeping you from tasting everything you know is there. Very dark, purple/black, dark fruit, groomed earth, with touches of vanilla and chocolate. |

1/9/2012 - jaxpaj wrote: 93 pointsI could see some of the traits from his other wines. Reminded me of GTS but lacked the depth and power. I was shocked by the wine at first taste (95pt+) but when paired with food the wine faded. This is a wonderful wine to start the night. Dark, large and full in the mouth but the finish doesn't compete. This is like a really good movie that it cut off at the end due to budget. At $55 a very good QPR. |
